Jim Henson Idea Man
Remember the life. Honor the legacy. Inspire your soul. The new Jim Henson documentary "Idea Man" is now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
Bear arrives on Disney+ The beloved series has been off the air for the past 15 years. Now all four seasons are finally available for a whole new generation.
I've come to feel that Jim Henson was very good at that when creating films and animations teaching numbers, even other than "The Baker"* series. (King of 8, 12 rocks in the sand, Doll House, "Nobody" teaching 10 and others).
It looks like they were designed by presenting and counting...
Was this Big Bird prototype on CY a full bodied puppet... or a hand puppet with legs matted on screen to look big?
There was also a Big Bird drawing on a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket someone was eating from. It was either Bobbie Fletcher or Ed.
Has anyone seen the Oscar appearance on Flip Wilson? I'm guessing it was the same episode with Big Bird, because both are credited at the end of the half-hour shortened version of that episode, usually on TV Land. All I know, this was Oscar's first appearance as being green -- even before the...
If I remember correctly, Brian Meehl voiced and puppeteered the lead singer, with a voice that sounded like Dr. Nobel Price might have sounded as a teenager, if you can imagine. I also found the tune to be rough on the ears.
Just thought of another joke, also used on the Honeymooners. Ernie has two pieces of apple pie, one very big and one very small. He gives the small one to Bert. The basic joke has usually gone:
"If I was in your place, I would have taken the small piece myself".
"Well what are you...
I think you'd be right about the blank picture being a cow eating grass is a joke that precedes Sesame Street. I think there were other early Sesame scenes indirectly based on jokes or fables.
The other that comes to mind is Ernie contemplating borrowing a vacuum cleaner from Herbert...
Heh, I fondly remember that one, as well as the skit done again with the English word "EXIT". One of my favorite "EXIT" demonstrations was a polar bear with a white hat. Everytime he finds an EXIT, a mob of similar bears charge through the other way. As a result, he makes his own by going...
Yikes! I wouldn't know if that was a "street skit" from the days that Grover hung around the street. But there was a Monsterpiece Theatre play called "Monsters of Venice". In a nutshell, some human AM's are planning a party and it looks like they are trying to hide it from a group of monsters...
I probably will sound a more than a little dim on the subject, but here's what I'm confused about, as well as wondering the future of Sesame Street Kermit appearances.
I know that the Sesame Street Muppets aren't part of what's being accquired by Disney. But Kermit was a crossover character...
Cookie also went through a physical transformation after the first two seasons. The original look was in Boober Gorg's icon (see above :) )
There may have been more than one version of the puppet used during those years, but basically he had the design of the slender head. His face was more...
It's interesting that a few songs that featured his singing voice lived on: "Who You Looking At, Tiger" and "I'm Pretty". I don't know if there were others.
Oscar appears in the last three shows on Home Video, Shows 9-11. They are listed on Amazon here.
If they're out of stock there, keep your eyes open on eBay for them.
My favorite Muppet M segment, surprisingly enough is not M-M-M Monster Meal. Nor is it Herbert Birdsfoot using Grover demonstrating the "m" sound because his mouth is stuck with peanut butter. Those would qualify for 2nd/3rd place. (I'll decide that later.)
Nay, my favorite is Herbert...
How difficult to pick a favorite -- well, one of my favorites is when Ernie has a note to give to Bert, but he throws things all over the place trying to find it. He finally finds the note. Bert discovers that it was a reminder from Ernie that it was Bert's turn to clean up the apartment. :)
