Y'know, back when I was auditioning, I found that a good place to start with was vocal positioning.
Basically, in college, we did a lot of Kristen Linklater voice work where you learn the best place to put your voice for acting.
Then I just did it over, all wrong. You come up with the...
I've always seen people use an electric knife (you know, the kind 50's Moms used to cut turkeys with ) and regular upholstery foam that you can buy in a fabric store that's as thick as the thickest part of your design. You start by drawing an outline on top of the foam, cutting it out, and then...
Not that this will help you now, but a puppet builder I know always used to build puppets so the design hid the seams in natural creases (i.e. nose, cheeks, eyebrows). His puppets were raw foam, and turned out looking spectacular. It's a real trick, though.
Who are you calling obsessive?
OK, kiddo, you've lost all right to point fingers now!
Sorry I haven't seen your movie - didn't think they could improve on the original. I heard it rocks, though. Just hard to watch a Spiderman who's at least ten years younger than me.
Gotta find a board...
Look for videos produced by Random House
They had the contract before Sony Wonder. I've had luck finding them in thrift stores and places like that. Don't know if they have any of the characters you're looking for, but it's a start.
Look, do you think 5-year olds RUN SS?
It takes adults to create a fantasy world of any kind. Kids can only invent, but they don't have things that many of us on this board have worked very hard to get.
training
resources
writing skills
artistic skill
the ability to work as a team...
Spidey
Hey, you like paperclips, I like jellybeans, and though I'm not crazy 'bout any of those things, still...I reserve judgement of you until you start acting like an adult.
Would you act this way as a dinner guest? I mean, invite yourself over and start criticizing the food? We're...
Hey, I'm younger than Caroll Spinney, and if he can still lug that giant honkin puppet around and crouch on the floor on a scooter with his arm over his head, I'll probably be back in the biz myself someday!:D
Hey, Spiderman!
OK, even if this is good-natured ribbing, I think it deserves an answer. So, first of all, I seem to be older than many of you - as I watched the ORIGINAL season of Sesame Street when it aired - admittedly, I was two!
The reason I watch every blessed day is that my own...
I know this is a stupid question, but when does the new SS season begin? I'm about to go out of my mind watching re-runs.
If anybody at SS is listening - is there any way you could throw in some older episodes when you get this far into re-runs so us adults (hey, even my toddler is getting...
Here's the thing - I have a two-year-old, who's right in the target market for Elmo's world (actually, he's starting to grow out of it) Personally, I'm not a big Elmo fan - I realized the other day, it's because Elmo ISN'T a three-year-old - he's an adult in three-year-old clothing.
I think...
Just re-reading some of this - I forgot how much I hate the Ernie's Show-And-Tell segments. Steve Whitmire has a terrific singing voice and great musical sense as Ernie, and I love any musical number with him in it - but he just doesn't do well with real kids. Nobody does on the show - they...
Toughpigs has a list of muppet recasts that can help you keep up with "is that just me, or is somebody else under that muppet?"

Obviously, I haven't been paying enough attention to it! Thanks, Dr. Tooth - I assumed the Count was Richard Hunt's...
You know, I hate to bash - characters are a developing thing. But there is room for improvement.
My kid loves the consistency of "Journey to Ernie" (hey, punk-n-puppets, things have really changed on the Street - hook up your VCR) but it doesn't really teach logical thought, like "Blue's...
Yup, that's the one - don't have Noggin, so I can't rely on it! So they haven't edited those out? That's great! As a former puppeteer, I know the pressures to keep everything PC - but I think we don't give kids enough credit. I think they do have a limited understanding of cartoon violence...
