Hace Calor
That song was on this past season:
Hace calor; mucho calor
Could fry an egg on the cement, it's so caliente
hace calor; mucho calor
Hace calor means it sure is hot!
Repackaging
Funny how Sesame Street is bringing up all of this stuff as "new," most of these ideas have been around forever. Children's health has always been on Sesame: think about all the tooth skits, food skits, exercise skits...
I suppose I should be grateful that this ensures the...
She's still around
I'm not as up on this season, as my son refuses to watch, but she was on the last two - singing "I'm Gonna Get To You" and something else, I don't remember.
Somebody's gotta have a pic!
New Audience
I think what you all are really reacting to is that Sesame Street has had to face the reality that it's audience is a great deal younger than it was when we were kids. I remember watching Sesame Street with my peers all the way through early grade school (later mostly by myself...
Yay!
So glad you guys are on the ball! Those were the first SS episodes my son ever saw - we'll see if he remembers them!
And thank you, SS - those kids in Florida really need the reassurance, not to mention the adults. I'm grateful you decided to use a topical show to help out.
And now...
Reminds me of Sid & Marty Kroft shows
Not so much in puppets (though in a way the style isn't that far off, except for materials) but more in the writing style: good kid is surrounded by people with bad ideas, superhero comes in and as he teaches everyone the right way, the villain falls into...
Phew!
My son is just learning about phonics and that show is great! I think it's some of the best educational writing on TV today, bar none. Thank goodness it's staying on the air!
Did anybody see the "Monkeys in Black" episode? Classic!
Natasha can fly (Elmo's World) - so perhaps she decided she didn't need to walk!
Didn't they have an episode last season where she stood up for the first time?
Denyce Graves is the soprano who sang "Operatic Lullaby" with Elmo - she also appears on Between the Lions - she's a current opera star, and that clip was from the '70s or early '80s. (also, she's African-American)
The setting probably refers to the opera "Aida" (same story as the musical)...
And there was the "Top Banana" muppet in the Elmo's World about bananas. There's also a lot of vegetables in the Elmo's World about farms - I think there may be some random ones besides the ubiquitous broccoli and cabbage.
I'm pretty sure the inchworm was a little lime-green guy; hope I'm not confusing it with the Muppet Show version because it's entirely possible that we still had B&W TV at the time, too.
In one or the other of the skits, there was a schoolhouse with little AM kids singing the refrain - I'm...
Isn't it amazing that Sesame Street has had such an impact for over 30 years that virtually everyone who made a major contribution has their own classic SS skit? Almost all the TV life retrospectives inevitably follow a star's passing include their clip. What a terrific way to be remembered...
I have to say I liked this one a lot, I agree it's better than the 25th anniversary tape that's been a staple at our house.
A lot of the celebrities are in the "Sing" montage in the beginning, where they each get part of a verse...let me see...
Vanessa Williams and sheep
Patti LaBelle and...
I'm not sure, but I think the people who are getting in the most trouble are the people who are in some way making a profit off of downloads - thus, taking money from SS. I'm not exactly sure about the legality of filesharing.
You can always help defray the cost of making new Sesame Street...
I stopped watching around the time Elmo appeared. I remember it was during the "babies" craze sometime in the early 80's (Muppet Babies, Godzuki, Scooby-Doo babies) and he did sketches as a baby Grover - I hated him instantly. I think Elmo now is less irritating than the Grover Minime version...
The clip I think you're referring to is on my "Muppet Sing-Along - It's Not Easy Being Green" VHS tape - which probably means it's a Muppet Show clip and not something from Sesame Street. It does have Animal, as well as Miss Piggy and Robin.
I vaguely remember Big Bird discovering Snuffy, and thinking how cool he was - though I don't remember him looking any different. I had lots of imaginary friends at the time, so I really appreciated that Big Bird had one, too. I understood completely how the grownups never saw him. Of course...
Loved seeing the old clips - esp. Beverly Sills (?) doing "C is for Cookie" one of my faves as a kid, I remember singing it opera-style. Wish it hadn't been "Elmo's World" style, too much time spent on those bits.
The baker falling down the stairs brought up an interesting point - notice...
