I LOVE reading and I could probably list a ton, but I'll try to limit myself- lol.
As to favorite short stories and poems- O. Henry's classic "The Gift of the Magi" is one of my all time favorites! (Mainly because I LOVE Christmas!) And "The Night The Bed Fell on My Father" by James Thurber...
I think this is probably where we might differ on interpretation, as I would say that some of The Bible is metaphor and symbolism. I do think that we should treat The Bible as historical accounts in every part- except for where it's clearly indicated that it's meant to be an allegory or such.
Exactly- heralde beat me to the punch, but that is essentially what Christ was saying.
Jesus also said, in Matthew 19:28-30, "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[e] or children or fields for My sake will receive a hundred times as much and...
Perhaps I should clarify. When I think of the Biblical definition of marriage, I don't think of Solomon having 1000 wives and concubines. They ultimately led to his demise.
Yes, polygamy and concubines are mentioned in the Bible. But there are no verses saying that we should take up multiple...
Hey Dr.Tooth- just thought I'd mention- Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated has already released Season 1, Volume 1 with 4 episodes on it earlier this year, as you mentioned.
Volume 2 comes to DVD next Tuesday with 4 more episodes...
And yes- I definitely agree we shouldn't be speaking ill of the dead. Better yet, I don't think we should speak ill of anyone- and that includes Charlie Sheen. I don't like everything he's done, but I still enjoy his performances as an actor in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Lucas", "Red Dawn"...
This idea is intriguing for story potential. To be fair, historical fiction writers do this kind of thing all the time. It's just that they use people who have been dead a lot longer.
A number of science fiction/fantasy authors have done this- Philip K. Dick, Isaac Asimov, H.G. Wells and of...
I guess it just didn't seem reverent enough to me. But others may not have any issue with it at all. And I've only seen the 1973 film version- and yes, Victor Garber did a great job in the role of Jesus.
Right- and as long as that's the case, I don't see that there would be a problem. I tend...
Regarding Bin Laden, I'm glad that a murderer has been brought to justice, but I would rather have seen come to stand trial and given a formal sentence. I'm surprised the military wouldn't have captured him alive for possible information on further terrorist actions. But I suppose they did what...
I love "The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh" - it'd be great to see it come to DVD! Maybe with the new movie, it will.
I can hear the theme song running in my head even now. Such a good, peaceful little show.:)
And as someone else mentioned, I also loved watching "Welcome to Pooh...
I haven't had a chance to see the new show yet, but I do really love the fact that Cartoon Network has been running the classic Looney Tunes cartoons again to help promote it. It's great to see that on Cartoon Network again! Finally, some good cartoons.:)
(Okay- to be fair, there are some other...
I read that book in high school- it was quite interesting, definitely.
True. Though it is an interesting read, it's still Dante's ideas rather than God's absolute truth. Much as I love C.S. Lewis and other Christian writers, I certainly hold to the actual Word of God- The Holy Bible- above...
C.S. Lewis did a great job of writing stories (namely "The Chronicles of Narnia" and the Space Trilogy- among others.)
and writing many nonfiction theological writings- like "Mere Christianity" and numerous others), all well worth reading.
I quote him because I love his writings and he did a...
Of course, getting aside from all these sidetracking issues, the main central issue of The Bible is the question that Jesus asked His disciples: "Who do you say I am?"
At first He asked them who do men say that He is- and the disciples answered the popular answers- "Some say Elijah or one of...
The same was said of Jesus- Isaiah 53:1-3 says He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
John 1:10-11 says that He was in the world, and though the world was made through...
Good question, sir. As to what Ezekiel saw in the sky, The Bible says "this was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of The Lord." (Ezekiel 1:28b) And then it goes on to say, "When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking."
This is certainly the most appropriate...
