Well, I did say it was a totally insane idea. :p
I just saw this documentary the other day about Terry Gilliam called "Lost in La Mancha." And I found my self thinking as I watched "you know, it's a shame artists have to work within the confines of economics." I fantasized about how cool...
I found the following message at: http://www.dpuppets.com/discuss/_PuppetTalk/0000009c.htm
"From: David Pannabecker
"After much thought and prayer, we decided to discontinue the manufacturing part of our opperations. I am in the midst of a doctoral program, as well as serving as a worship...
Well Buck, thanks for being a voice of reason. I hadn't considered the possibility that Disney had enough eps to last them a good long while.
And it is terrific news that JHC is producing direct-to-vid Bear projects.
As for Bear, he is magnificently constructed and practically performs...
Here's a totally insane idea.
Why not set up a non-profit org with the express purpose of producing new eps of Fraggle Rock? Accept charitable donations from all around the world (since FR was an international sensation.) Once a sufficient level of capital has been raised (what, $50...
Daggerclaws, dude, you've already accomplished more than many people can claim. Keep at it.
Puppetry is a lot like acting in that it is such an imperfect art. You can always stand to make improvements. Not to get too mystical, but there's this concept that you really have to do the best...
Does anyone have the skinny on what JHC requires on the audition tape? Are there even specific guidlines for what you must put on such a tape?
Also, I hear they want a cassette or CD with different voices on it. True?
I've e-mailed JHC but haven't heard back. Any help on this would be...
Dude, don't lose heart.
A couple of things for you to keep in mind - first, if puppetry is something you feel passionate about, do it. It doesn't really matter the geography of your situation. Ply the trade. And by all means, put together an audition tape. There's no harm in doing it, and...
Jimney Cricket!
At Disney, one hand really doesn't know what the other is doing. At Disney's California Adventure, "Playhouse Disney - Live Onstage" is without a doubt the best live show on resort property (I'm not just saying that because I'm in it.) We routinely play to packed houses...
This is a very good sign - If JHC is talking to distributors it means that they have some projects in the works and are looking for some capitol to get rolling. :) It's a very common practice for a production company to "pre-sell" a product (tv show, movie, etc.) to a distributor and use the...
Here's an important question for anyone out there with a possible answer: (*ahem* buckbeaver *ahem*)
To whom and to where would a puppeteer send a resume for possible background work on this production? (Between Munchkinland, the Emerald City and Flying Monkeys, there should be the need for...
My senior year in high school I took an old pair of blue jeans and an old black sweatshirt and threw together "Rasta Kermit." :) He had a cardboard mouth, button eyes, and "dreadlocks" made out of braided strips of that sweatshirt. My wife's best friend stole him.
In college, I went a bit...
Over at “Playhouse Disney – Live Onstage” we have the real deal – Henson Creature Shop-built “Bear in the Big Blue House” muppets. They do indeed have nylon sleeves inside (which make it easy to slip in and out of puppets for our quick transitions.) The sleeves have regularly spaced “air...
Here's an idear . . .
Although I would love to see the rich, patchwork quilt tapestry of the muppet characters applied to OZ (scarecrow kermit, Fozzie the Cowardly Bear, etc.,) here's a different idea:
What if JHP did The Wizard of Oz as it's own universe, ala Dark Crystal or Labyrinth...
Just spoke to one of my Stage Managers at "Playhouse Disney - Live Onstage!" (the Disney's California Adventure edition.) Looks like I'll be performing Bear! This is really exciting. Anyway, I just wanted to share!

I think this is a stellar idea!
It reminds me of a "Harold," a long-form improvistion consisting of dozens of short sketches around a common theme. But with puppets.
Sweet!

I know we heard (and saw) Jerry Nelson, Steve and Dave Goelz on that one "behind the scenes" episode of the Jim Henson Hour. I can't remember if Frank Oz was in the shot or not. It was near the end of the episode, when the camera pulled back and showed the muppet performers at work.
