No flag has been banned from this forum. We received complaints from a number of forum members about the use of the Iraqi flag in an avatar and out of respect for their feelings a change was suggested, not demanded. I am sorry for any misunderstanding.
I hope everyone (and I do mean...
A number of forum members have been encorporating political messages into their avatars and signatutes of late. This is a perfectly reasonable response to current events. However, the issues involved are very emotional and some questions have come up about what is and is not appropriate for...
This would be a pretty boring place if we all thought the same things. Debate is good. Sharing ideas is good. Given the current climate, we all need to be especially considerate of one another and choose our words carefully and respectfully. There’s more leeway when talking about public...
Kidman was superb in The Hours. Virginia Woolf is such an important figure, both from an historical perspective and a sociological perspective, it was a tough role to tackle and she's right-- a gorgeous Aussie was risky casting there. It would have been easy to overplay Woolf's mental illness...
Page 4 of a thread about the Oscars and no one has mentioned the clothes yet?
I was impressed with Catherine Zeta Jones. She's not one of my favorite actors, but anyone who gets on stage, under all those lights, in heels, and belts out a song nine months pregnant gets my respect...
Now here's a sentiment we can probably all get behind. And not just for those in Iraq, but for everyone caught in conflicts and wars throughout the world. Whatever our political and ideological views, I don't think any of us want to see people in harm's way.
Maybe someday we will all live...
I'm a big fan of battery-free toys. I got my daughter a plain old ordinary Elmo plush. It doesn't sing, dance or giggle, but she loves it and it doesn't get on my nerves. ;)
Sesame Street posters are available at a lot of poster stores. I'd try K-mart or poster stores at the mall...
Bob's apartment has been around a long time-- it's in CESS. We don't see as much of Bob because he's in semi-retirement (busy playing with the grandkids and the like).
Matt Vogel performs Big Bird in the Journey to Ernie segments and other times as well. I think it's impressive Carroll hasn't retired out right. Puppetry is hard work and Carroll has certainly earned the right to take it easy.
SST isn't going to disappear. There are new episodes about to start airing and plans are in the works for next season. But nothing lasts forever and television is ruled by profits. Sesame Street hasn't been axed, so for now it stays. How long it will continue isn't known.
Funding for the arts is down in general. But the funding PBS gets (from the NEA and members and private donations) does not pay to produce SST. Sesame Workshop pays for the show via their endowment and (mostly) revenue from merchandise.
As I understand it, PBS dictates the number of...
It's an interesting article-- regardless of your views on the current situation, the article has a lot to say about puppets and street theater from an historical perspective.
Anyone want to place bets on whether Disney-owned Muppets produce adult-oriented entertainment like TMS or preschool-oriented entertainment like KSY and MCT?
I don't think Carroll Spinney performs Oscar these days. He does the voice, but he isn't the one crawling up inside the trash can.
When Big Bird and Oscar have appeared together it is a fair bet that Carroll is in Big Bird. It's the more difficult performance and and I don't believe Matt...
