On the contrary, an artist needs to be concerned with technique, to develop their technique, in order to successfully convey the idea behind what they are creating. Da Vinci wasn't concerned with technique? Michelangelo wasn't concerned with technique?
In the case of puppet building, a builder...
I agree with MGov's thoughts. Puppet building, as with almost everything, can be either an art or a craft depending on how far you take it. For example, take a look at these pictures -

I just got those pics in an email forward this morning and...
Check the tension on the sewing machine. If your two fabric pieces are shifting as you sew the tension may be too loose. Or if the bottom piece is ending up "longer" than the top, the tension may be too tight. Refer to the user manual of the machine. It's probably just a setting.
It's not only about the time and materials. You are an artist! It's your years of experience. Your knowledge of materials and resources. Your artistic sensibility. Your style that you've developed over the years. Your craftsmanship...and the list can go on.
All of those things are involved...
I second that.
And Gordon, you are dead on with the "Expect More, Pay Less" mentality. Billions of dollars are spent to advertise that very thought, or should we call it propoganda. It's that prevailing attitude that makes it hard for any small business, and for the other reasons you...
I just wanted to post a bit of clarification here. The following is taken from the Library of Congress' copyright site under FAQ:
When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or...
Well I'm certainly not an attorney so don't take this as legal advice, but here's what I know. The first question I would ask is whether you are creating the characters or is the client providing drawings/sketches of the characters they want built. That can make a world of difference. If they...
Wow! Awesome ravagefrackle! I used to go there all the time...and across the street (Canal) to Pearl Paint. Is Pearl Paint still there?
Last time I was in NY, I went looking for some of the old places I used to go around Canal St, Like Canal Street Jeans and Alice Underground. When I got to...
I would say for the future a direct link to eBay would be better. You have to login to Puppets And Stuff to see the post, so if someone didn't have a login (or didn't want one) then they couldn't see the puppets.
But it looks like the auctions have ended. Congrats on selling every one!:) It...
If the puppet's "skin" is foam, airbrushing works nicely. You could also airbrush a five o'clock on a fleece covered puppet, but for the best results, I'd work the shadow into the pattern and use a slightly darker colored fleece for the "shadow" areas - for a Fred Flintstone effect.
Just wanted to update everyone. We've got votes from four out of the five judges. So we should be able to post the top ten very soon. Very sorry for the wait, staceyrebecca, that is if you are still alive. :)
And yes, KermieBaby47, we'll be showing some of the other entries, besides the top...
I know, I know. :)
So far, we have received votes from two of the judges. There is no time limit for the judges' deliberation. We're just glad they are taking the time out of their busy schedules to judge and be a part of the contest. But don't worry, as soon as all the votes are in, Project...
