Well I liked what someone on the Web said recently. Jesus said love thy enemy. It was unpopular back then and we still struggle with it even now...
I agree, I think that's a tricky thing for everyone. Tolerance shouldn't mean giving up the right to fight for your own viewpoints. If we took...
Exactly, we can't help what other people do, we can only help what we do. And we should all be spending more time improving ourselves than pointing the finger at others. :)
Tolerance is very important; as civilized human beings we should be able to disagree yet still remain friends or at least...
You're referring to Bin Laden I assume? Well, ::sigh:: the way I see it, he did need to be stopped. He was dangerous both to the US and to his own people, and it wasn't going to get better. So I can't speak out against that. But I won't go around celebrating a death. "Love your enemies and pray...
Me too, in High School. Good old summer reading, lol.
And I want to clarify, I do have a lot of respect for Dante's Inferno as a literary work of art. I was just kiddding about the fanfiction remark, hehe.
GonzoLeaper, can I ask, have you ever seen Jesus Christ Superstar or Godspell? Just...
Well my own theory, I think it could be a human because at one point it does sort of look like the "thing," whatever it is, is mugging, that is looking at the camera very deliberately.
Lol, nice, used to watch MacGyver with my Mom all the time. Ah memories! :)
Oh yes absolutely, that was...
Well I kinda know what you mean, the Disney princesses seem very liberated on film, but the merchandise they sell to kids is very pink and prissy and silly. But Disney's only doing that because they know that's what a lot of girls will like, they didn't originate the interest. (Though personally...
For sure, overall I'm a big fan of the Disney films, especially how they span over so many years, all the way back to 1937 with Snow White. The music's consistently incredible, the animation very innovative and heartfelt. As I say, they did go a bit overboard with the "Girl Wants More" cliche in...
Well I will say, while I loved Beauty & the Beast as a kid, later on I did begin to think Belle was being a little too snobby, whinging about those poor, dumb "provincial" people who aren't on her level, lol. I mean, "Excuse us poor, simple people for living, Belle!" :coy:
Don't get me wrong...
I think parts of King Kong are really classic, and other parts I tune out at. It's not entirely my kind of movie anyway. But it's still cool overall. :)
That's the thing, I grew up watching the original versions. So it did feel like my memories were being tampered with when he did that. He shouldn't have assumed that all fans would just automatically have the same affection for these changes. It doesn't work that way.
Well it's not very original, but I have to say, I grew up watching The Wizard of Oz, one of my very first movies, and I just can't hate it, lol. But I'd definitely be willing to give Return to Oz a chance as well. :)
Speaking of Oz adaptations, has anyone else seen The Wiz? Definitely captures...
I mean I never minded that MGM's version wasn't accurate to the book; it is its own movie and it works. But it's great that other attempts like Return to Oz have also been made. I can see why fans of the book would want to see a movie that follows the book more closely but as usual I'm concerned...
Ah ok, lol, no worries. :)
Ok actually, I'll meet you half way here. I should have agreed that Casablanca was a happy accident for the reasons you stated. I was just saying that it's no accident that the writing was so good because the writers were indeed very skillful artists and their final...
Agree to disagree. :) I just didn't find it particularly deep. I felt like they thought they were doing something deep, but it just didn't impress me.
Casablanca (one word) was no "happy accident" though. The writing may have been breakneck speed and hectic, but it was top notch and very few...
Sorry, but to me Citizen Kane is the overrated one, hehe. It reminds me of big epic films they make today, all style and little subtance. And a big ego trip. Pioneering camera techniques but underwhelming story for me. (I mean really, it wasn't that hard to figure out what Rosebud was! ;) )...
And that was the one smart thing he did in the whole situation. ;)
Oh yeah I understand. :) It's always interesting to see alternate or original versions of movies etc. I just felt he took it too far by actually going in and altering the movies themselves. It's like if Leonardo went in and...
Sorry but I'm in the demonizing crowd, hehe. I know it's his creation, but that doesn't mean he always knows what's best. He's too close to the material to be unbias. And to add modern CGI, I thought, was disrespectful to the hard work that was done originally. And it's disrespectful to the fans...
Well the thing is, I think the original Broadway version of Grease makes it more clear how stupid and loser-ish the characters are. The movie glorified all this stuff. But I don't blame Grease, High School has always been like that, heh. ;)
