Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
It really depends on the type of work you're doing. Buck-Beaver's estimation is correct. If you have the budget for it, great. If you don't, I would recommend finding some enthusiastic people who can work in an internship type capacity, i.e. free. After all, JH didn't pay his puppeteers very...
I'm aware of how television writing works. The fact is, the show has never been well written, right back to the original episodes that he did write.
I'm not placing sole blame on him for the decline of television, obviously. And yes, there are worse things on television. But Family Guy is...
It's not the vulgarity that turns me off. He is not a good comedy writer, pure and simple. It's extremely lazy humor that appeals to the lowest common denominator. There's nothing intelligent to what he does, nothing nuanced. It's dead weight like Family Guy, American Dad, and the Cleveland Show...
You're right. It's a weird tone. Fuller than most falsetto voices, but with lots of grit and low tones when she's angry.
We lucked out with Jacobson. The only thing he does that I think is a misstep is making Miss Piggy a good singer.
I'm not going to claim to be a good impressionist. I have a variety of my own voices, but it's pretty embarrassing when I try to copy others. I can do a lot of the easier ones, like the Swedish Chef, Link, and Beaker. I can do an alright Kermit, a passable Gonzo, and a passable Miss Piggy, a...
Post Oz Fozzie is not nearly as funny, endearing, or multi-dimensional as Oz Fozzie. Unless they can get his character right, I don't really care about him having a major role.
I want to see more Gonzo. He's one of my favorite Muppets, and he's the only one still being performed by his...
I think a summer release for this movie might be a really terrible idea. Sure, Muppet Fans will go, parents will take their kids to see it, and ironic teenagers will snicker through it. But summer is a time for big budget blockbusters, and the Muppets have never been "big" films. They're small...
No one is taking away from Whitmire. He is a brilliant performer who has done the character justice. But the unavoidable fact is that Kermit is Henson's character, and will always be Henson's character. Just as Rizzo is Whitmire's character, and will never really be anybody else's.
One of the reasons Jim Henson was a unique genius is that he was easy to get along with. Other extremely brilliant people - Raposo, Hunt, even Frank Oz at times - were and are tough people.
I love Raposo's work. He sounds like a real character.
It's very interesting that most of Jim Henson's life is shrouded in mystery. The only biographies currently available don't really cover his early life, skim over his college career, and then jump into his work in advertising and beyond. In fact, for all we know about his personality, there's...
