You know, had there been more communication between Big Bird and Cookie Monster on this special, they could have worked out a good deal. Cookie could have told Big Bird Santa's phone number and Big Bird could have dialed for him to ask for cookies AND how he gets down the chimney. Now, THAT...
Grover did have a very small part in this when he questioned some of the children about how Santa gets down the chimney. Kermit said he was going to "round up some of the guys" to find out the answer.
I agree that the comment sounded a bit insensitive, but I don't think it was meant to be that way. On the other hand, there are some people who might be offended by an avatar with a Communist symbol on a Sesame Street board. Let's be fair now.
It's funny. For a long time I didn't think of "brown Grover" as being Grover at all. I just thought he was an anything monster that looked like Grover. This may have been because, in the early 70's, they were showing both old clips of the "brown Grover" and new clips of the blue one. Also...
Actually, there was at least one other episode where Big Bird got Mr. Hooper's name right several times! If you can, look at the episode from Noggin where Mr. Hooper asks Big Bird to open the store for him and Big Bird is afraid. Big Bird actually says his name correctly numerous times.
Okay, here are some of my weirder ideas for the show. How about making Ernie's Rubber Ducky able to talk and move? He's been around since the show's beginning, isn't it about time he got some lines of his own?
I've also thought that the Sesame Street lamp post should come to life sometimes...
I remember both of those. The first Ernie and Bert sketch you mentioned was shown during the blackout episode on the street, but I believe it was shown on its own at other times. When Ernie calls, Oscar is angry about being waken up and says that whoever this is, he's going to see to it that you...
Ah, glad someone else remembers! I'd actually like to have TWO copies. One to frame and one to play with! LOL In the original booklet, Oscar and his can were separate punchouts and you'd slide him through a slot in the lid. In the second booklet, Oscar and his can were one piece.
The...
These recent blackouts have brought to mind an episode of Sesame Street in the mid seventies where the street kept blacking out. I believe that was around 1975 when the other big blackout occurred. Big Bird had everyone set to see Snuffy, but as soon as he brought Snuffy out, all the lights...
Oscar's mobility came in three forms. Sometimes he would walk around in his can, sometimes Bruno the garbage man would carry him around, and other times he would just get out of the can and move around on the street like any other muppet.
I heard that they changed to the cherries on sundaes ending because the powder finale was too much like the ball had "died". I don't know if this is true.
That is James Earl Jones. That skit used to scare me too as a child and my parents had to change the channel. Doesn't bother me now though, it just seems a little monotonous.
Does anyone remember a book of "punch out" paper Sesame Street muppets from the early 70's? The book had photos of the muppets that could be punched out and wrapped around fingers. There was a very early book that had the early muppets in their original appearances (like Herry Monster with a...
An early Guy Smiley as "Sonny Friendly" is out there somewhere and some day, I'll find someone who remembers it too. LOL
I do have to wonder if they wouldn't be tempted to dub over the name "Sonny Friendly" on reruns or records though.
That has crossed my mind too, but I certainly hope that's not the reason. :( I'd rather believe it was a practical decision because of Northern's failing health.
Still, for all their progressiveness, Sesame Street has traditionally played it fairly safe when it came to race and...
I always thought David and Maria were good together. I too was very surprised when she got together with Luis. I don't think the "separation" of David and Maria was ever officially mentioned, but there were at least two vague references. There is a scene where David sees Maria and Luis walking...
Interesting. I still say that there was a very early skit where Guy Smiley was introduced as "Sonny Friendly". When Sonny Friendly appeared on the 80's episodes, I recognized the name from way back in the early 70's. If ANYONE has further info on this, please jump in.
Well, I was trying to enter a very closed system in the Children's Television Workshop (Sesame Workshop today). They don't ask for any submissions and seem to feel that they have everything they need to make the show work. This is essentially what they told me in their letter after I had sent...
