Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
My vote is nay. If Pepe gets made, then that opens up the possibility for other non-TMS characters which puts TMS characters in jeopardy of being made.
I *would* like to see Pepe and other newer characsters get made, but not at the expense of other classic characters.
On the other hand, if...
I think The Jim Henson Hour was some of his best work. Additionally, Muppet Family Christmas, Fraggle Rock, The Storyteller (not the Greek Myths, the originals) and Labyrinth were all genious and magical. Even Tale of the Bunny Picnic and Muppet Babies are better than most of the stuff churned...
Yeah, the DVD came out last year but I still haven't picked it up. Frank's commentaries are always great, I look forward to it. Have you listened to it yet?
I agree, except the stuff they made in the Jim era was because Jim was around. It seems to me that even though there have been some quality productions since his passing (Treasure Island, Christmas Carol) that pretty much everything has been something of a dissapointment.
The Muppets don't...
I'm all for continuing with a mix. Do a kiddie project, then a family project. That seems to be what they're doing this year with the direct-to-video release and then the Xmas movie in December.
Also, I posted my "fan art" for the DVD cover at the ToughPigs forum. I'd have posted it here...
Mahna Mahna for cripe's sake!
I'm still SO baffled by the omission on everyone's 'Want Lists' for this guy.
I mean, he *did* make number 2 on The Tough Pigs Annual Countdown, and that's like, scripture!
I think it looks a little kiddiefied too. I'm trying to keep optimistic but I see it being as bad as Muppet Classic Theatre, or worse.
Still though, if Henson markets this properly, this is the perfect project to target to soccer moms and thus help younger children who don't have a Muppet...
Sweet. That looks like the same one we saw at MuppetFest in December except I thought there was a shot that showed Goggles (or was it Croaker?) with a tire track over him after he'd been run over. Or maybe that was one of the clips they showed us, I can't remember.
Agreed, more volumes would be fantastic, but the only way a license for a product is going to continue is if you buy what they make available for you.
While Time-Life has made it known that they do not wish to continue their line, this doesn't mean that Henson might not contract with somebody...
The word as of a few weeks ago is that they were planning on issuing the current volumes 11-15 on DVD by the end of the summer. These are the same 11-15 that were released on VHS.
It was confirmed however that they would not be continuing the line of Muppet Show videos beyond their 15...
Agreed. Keeping confusion out is a good take. I think it's a dead give away though that the review was placed on that page in error as the reviewer keeps calling the book "Animal" and not "Manimal."
However at BN, the title itself makes it clear what the book is about: "....a Book Dedicated...
Woah, woah, easy there pardner. MuppetFest 2002 hasn't been confirmed yet. Let's not go starting any rumors.... although I'm sure that wasn't you're intent.
I stand with you on excitement though. I'm greatly looking forward to this year. With the Manimal book, the Muppet Show celebrity book...
