Great as usual. It's always a treat to see your art.
That puppet is at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, and I always get a smile out of seeing Jim "in the flesh".
A few program notes for this chapter:
I must be up-front about one thing. I am not a poet or lyricist, and I never pretended to be. I could excuse the wonkiness of the songs in this chapter as being symptomatic of Cantus' youth or his trying too hard, but the fault lies with me. Sorry, Cantus...
Heavens to Murgatroyd, it's another chapter of...
The Minstrel's Path
Part 10

It was a world carved out of soil. The tunnels were not solid, reliable rock, but earth, packed hard and reinforced with stones and wooden structures that looked like huge Doozer...
Huh! I did some research into Sonic releases before I posted, but I didn't find those games. I stand corrected.
Sonic Popcorn Shop sounds like an even weirder idea than Baby Pac-Man, which was a lousy video game attached to a lame pinball game.
I've heard they didn't use Mario because a)...
Last weekend I saw Silent Hill 2, and...well, I was hoping it wouldn't suck, but not expecting much. And I got what I expected: an utter cheese-fest made by people who obviously never played the games. Poor Pyramid Head. But I was able to enjoy it for its cheese factor, and there were some...
And when you cut the fur, cut the backing but as little of the fur as possible. Some people slide the scissor blade through at the base of the fur. I like to use a sharp Exacto blade and cut only the backing.
One thing has occurred to me: how heavy are the arms, and how sturdy is the internal structure? Would moving the arm put enough weight on the structure to bend it or cause it to want to tip sideways? I'd do some testing that way, just running some PVC through the arm and moving it around, to...
Fleece pills if you rub the surface. The best way to avoid pilling is avoid rubbing the surface. Putting it in a clothes dryer will do horrible things to it.
Project Puppet has a writeup on working with Antron fleece, including shaving pilled fleece. This might be the way to go.
Kermit's Swamp Years is the one that gives me pain. I cringed all through it. I didn't enjoy Muppet Treasure Island either, but it doesn't have the deep hurting factor that KSY did, and there were some fun moments.
What an appropriate sig I have. At least the discussion is fitting for this...
I was about to rebut this for this particular character, but... I remember some songs in which he did that. Royal throne, eagle, cowboy... I could excuse the first two as things he might have been exposed to, in concept at least, but a cowboy would be stretching it.
Ah well, I'll still keep it...
I've noticed that, when singing, Fraggles mention things that they should have no concepts of. Ice cream cones with zippers (Fraggles don't have freezers or the ability to manufacture zippers), highways, chicken stew, kangaroos, and so on. I just give them a bit of leeway when it comes to...
I've done some more work on Skeeter. I shortened and narrowed her neck--from the side she reminded me of a giraffe--and made her gloves. Here she is with a friend...
Skeeter 'n' Janken: Wow, I can see the progress I've made between these two puppets. (Now I know I'll make a better Jan...
I saw Silent Hill 2 today. I was hoping it wouldn't suck and braced for sickiness, and, well, it lived down to my expectations. The folks who made this mess took the plot and characters of SH3, a great video game, threw it in a blender, then sucked out all the drama and replaced it with...
Hints from a total amateur here...
Try getting a puppet with the same mechanics as the Avenue Q ones (mouth and arm rods) and just playing with it. get in front of a mirror and do stuff. Talk, lip-synch to a song, whatever, and keep your eyes on the puppet. Get the hang of putting your...
