I recall two similar ones: "U/Underpass" with speeded-up traffic driving on it; and "B/Boats" with several kinds of boats moored in a harbor. Have you seen those clips--and if you have, can you identify the locations? (I've never been in NYC myself, but it wouldn't surprise me if CTW usually...
Holy cow, you saw that one?
*whew* I finally have proof that the "R for Ribbon" sketch existed; before you described more details, all I had were vague memories of the letter/ribbon changing as a woman's voice spoke. Many thanks!
The word before the ending is "medal", not "manhole"; Martha stands proudly, wearing a gold medal with an "m" on it, as a trumpet fanfare sounds.
BTW, when the narrator asks Martha how to make an "m", she does it by dropping a small ball; its bouncing leaves visible "Mm" trails behind.
That one made me nervous as a kid--between the shouted "I" becoming more insistent, and the loud metallic "twang" that played every time the dot bounced. When I finally got my own TV, I'd turn the sound all the way down as soon as that "i" showed onscreen.
Ummm, that clip was about the letter R, not P...I distinctly recall a rhyme "Or how about a radish from the salad bar?"
(Why am I suddenly flashing back to the Two-Headed Monster's own "R versus P" sketch? :concern: )
I don't remember that one, unfortunately...then again, a girl less than a year old probably wouldn't.
Those were cool, especially Kermit's "or...dessert, depending on your point of view" after Cookie scarfed down the last of the W.
I personally didn't like those two: loud...
Cookie Monster's sketch with the lid/string protecting the cookies was meant to teach "before" and "after"; he tricked Kermit into lifting the lid by asking him to demonstrate the two words. Of course, "after" Kermit repeats this demonstration once too many, Cookie has eaten too many cookies...
They must have reverted to the default picture (for any forum using the same software as this one). Since Muppet Central went down for maintenance today, I'm not surprised that some little glitches are still here.
That Q did have animated eyes, complete with lashes when they closed; I too got the impression that it was trying to sleep and being disturbed by the other letters.
Little Bird also appeared in a segment about "next to"...I remember her perching next to an open window, a radiator, and a scary monster (Frazzle?). Her reaction to the last one: "Maybe I should tell you about 'away from'!" as she takes off in terror.
I can understand the frustration, but a child young enough to talk/think like Elmo will probably call most adults Mr./Ms. Something-or-other...even a neighbor across the street. I know I was raised not to use first names unless someone specifically asked me to.
I never saw season 35 either, except for the few episodes I might have caught at a friend's home; I've gone without a television of my own for about five years (and didn't buy a new set until I moved to a place with free basic cable). These reruns will be new to at least some adults, even...
I nominate Bert as the (hypothetical) patron saint of inner-city tenants. *visualizes a haloed statue with a few pigeons at its base* Try to find one non-fictional person who takes in a friend like Ernie and DOESN'T go ballistic in a few weeks...
Lucky Kerri; I'd have given up almost anything to have been on the show in those days (then again, what kid raised in the 70s wouldn't have?). Knowing that you have such a priceless memory to share with your own children...I'm touched. *awwwww*
Sesame Street has characters who grow, age, and die normally (not just when the plot requires it, unlike The Simpsons). By the same token, the actual tree on that set may be a plastic fake; yet characters almost always treat it as the real thing. Snuffy's climb was the one exception, as far as...
Somehow I remember Snuffy wearing black-and-white striped pajamas on his "visible to everybody" debut; adults on the street were insisting that the stripes were part of his body, despite Big Bird's protests to the contrary. (If the episode with the pajamas argument aired before/after Snuffy's...
I remember the Montana story arc, too, though it's depressing to know that the cast will never take another trip on the show. Only a few lines of the special theme lyrics come to mind:
"Here we go, into the land of Crow..."
"People waiting for/Big pow-wow,/heading for Pryor now...There's a...
I remember him eating a pepperoni pizza (a circle with lots of little circles inside, as the Bridgekeeper points out). The other groceries include an orange and a box of cookies which looked like plain sugar cookies--those must be the white ones you recalled.
"Wet Paint" gone crazy
Does anyone else remember an episode centered on the phrase "Wet Paint"? Some character on the street was painting one of the stores (not sure whether it was the Fix-It Shop or Hooper's). He asked Big Bird to make a "Wet Paint" sign so no one else would ruin the job...
