Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
I don't know when it was taken out, but the wall was originally meant to hide the Muppet performers from the audience (so that they'd see only the puppets). The Workshop must have found more effective ways to hide the performers when they decided to stop using the wall.
Although I usually don't like episodes with "sponsor as character" street stories, I'll freely admit that #3833 was well done: the "X-Files" reference reminded me of the older TV parodies I grew up seeing, and the in-jokes about "Sesame Street" itself (remember why the "X" wore shades?)...
No problem; I'm currently working on The Best of Episode 1094, which should be ready by tomorrow. I've also got clip collections from the Unpaved version of some Old School episodes, for those of you who don't have DVD players:
Best of Episode 131
Best of Episode 276
Best of Episode 406...
Exactly! When I watched the show as a girl, the characters didn't talk down to me just because I was a child. Yes, I liked the nursery-rhyme and cartoon material, but my enjoyment didn't end there. I felt as if I were part of everything that happened on the Street, even when the adults joked...
Continuing the Hawaiian episode arc, I just finished uploading clips from #1093: the street scenes and everything else. ("Lower-case 'N'" is already fixed and uploaded to YouTube, but I included it here because #1093 is the only episode I own with that clip in it.) Enjoy!
BTW, a user with the screenname "lastofthegypsies" posted this clip to YouTube today; I'd include a link but it's buried too deep in my history. *blush*
That song is a real "awww!" inducer, especially the verse where the octopus complains that it would take until next Saturday night to hug his girlfriend.
"Oh no, no, no, no...
I don't know which arms to use.
I've got the 1-2-3-4
5-6-7-8 blues!"
I've just finished another episode's worth of clips from the "trip to Hawaii" week--the Best of #1092. (Unfortunately, I don't have Episode 1091; but I'm working on some YouTube captures so I can trade for it.) The archive's divided into street scenes and everything else this time, since my...
All the more reason to have Bert and Ernie introduce the classic stuff; they're probably the oldest characters that Sesame Workshop still owns, plus they're not one-note types like Cookie Monster. I could easily see the "Things that I Remember" segments going like this:
While an instrumental...
Why not call the classics segment "Things That I Remember" and have Bert/Ernie introduce the old clips together? They've been on the show since Episode 1, and have been shown watching older material together in a couple of sketches.
It's times like this that I'm glad I paid for an ad-free version of YouRipper, so I can download the good stuff before Viacom strikes again. True, a few of my friends help replace the logos on my clips; but they've got real lives too! :)
I didn't separate the audio and video tracks when I edited that one, so the sync problem must have happened when I converted it to an .mp4 file. Hopefully I'll be able to fix it soon!
My health problems (including a serious disability I was born with) would make it hard to raise even an adopted child: try changing a diaper when your hands are too clumsy to tie shoes, or chasing a runaway toddler when you're deathly afraid of running him down with your power wheelchair...
Neither episode is in my collection, though I'd be willing to do a "best of" collection for those two if you could convert them to a format I can edit.
I've heard of this parody before, but not seen it personally; the mysterious word in the title is actually "sinsemilla" (Spanish for "seedless", a plant with marijuana-like effects).
Old and Older, Part 2
First, the "old" stuff: my latest addition to the archive is The Best of Episode 1090 (the cast leaves for Hawaii; eight street scenes included).
Next, the "older" stuff: Best of Episode 1 (includes "Consider Yourself" clip in full, plus the "You Can Wash Anything"...
