I just don't know what to make of this and thought I'd share with you puppeteer folk.
It says '1907' in the video description. I translated it from Italian to english, with one of them translators, and it says;
French Cortometraggio of 1907...
I tend to draw a lot. My stuff here. Haven't made a puppet in ages though, but I think puppet makers go about it from two angles. Cartoonist-like designing and then making it real, or an artisan way of designing it from a practical materials kinda way.
My $0.02.
Any chance of seeing your replicas in the making stages?
I ask cause I'd like to tackle a full body puppet and would love to see how you did your Big Bird's head. I still don't know how that long beak moves so easily and light. I think a little counter weight at the back of the head to see-saw...
If you guys feel so strongly about copyright then you wouldn't favourite stuff from television and film on youtube then.
I'm sure you'll say "but this is different, they're making money off something that isn't theirs."
But the way I see it, Henson company doesn't make muppet replica puppets...
If you're gonna use those light metal garbage cans you should be ok. Are they Alluminum?
To cut the hole you could drill a big enough hole for a hacksaw blade width and get a handle for a hack saw blade from a hardware store. And it might take a little time and elbow grease OR to make a circular...
Is there a photo of that bottom mech finished?
The reason I ask is cause I'd like to see how the eyelid looks. With the loop at the top ,and because it's only being moved at the bottom point [as aposed to the hard shell example where the whole eyelid is being moved] the eyelid material would...
Two things that come to mind is maybe injecting some oil into the little motors. In and around, just to lube it all up. Might reduce some noise.
The clear type oil.I'm thinking the kind for knife blades, but I imagine hobby shops have something, some kind of oil for moving parts in remote...

I just saw Deathcab For Cutie's Video Clip for 'Crooked Teath' and really dug it.
Great mix of Puppetry, Animation and even a little bit of live action, And works really well with the Lyrics. All things I like to see done in a music video.
Oh Wow,What a coincidence, I just came from youtube where I saw the video for this, and I really dug it. Looks Awesome.

First thought I had was having maybe a small rubber tube, threaded through discs [some hard thick material] spaced a fair distance apart and covered with a thin foam or latex or whatever. I dunno if it will wrap around stuff ok.
And if you wanted Cone-like tentacles you'd just change the size...
I went with CGI..the way the weight of it moved just didn't seem real, and because of the quality of the video I figured the puppet and choppers were all cg. But there you go.
I'm still curious about the youtube accounts that posted the vids as if they actually saw it happening.
Were they...
Ok, I'm not going to pretend I knew what he was like, but Does anyone know exactly what he thought of replica muppets?
I don't mean selling them, I mean, just making a muppet replica.
I posted a detailed description of how I made the blink mech for my last puppet Here with pics.
It works well, and there's still plenty of room for improvement.
Hope that helps give you an idea and where you could take it.
I wouldn't bother.
With the effort you put into converting it, you could make one from scratch.
What you could do is try to match the replica as much as possble. Take measurements and stuff, use it as your guide..
Make a puppet replica, of the replica, of the puppet. =D
TheCreatureWork makes valid points, my intial thoughts were all of them too.
But also..making Jeans of that size?..impossible.
Youtube seems to be down, so I can't see any of the footage but I have to go with my gut feeling. This would be all over the news if it was real.
I mean, you can find...
hey cool. I, like many, grew up with Agro on Tv in the mornings before school.
With the only other Major kids Puppetry show being 'The Ferals'.
Agro's looking a little bit worse for wear now. But it's appropriate. He looks old and haggered, which is fitting considering how long he's been on...
