THAT one I remember fairly well; it doesn't sound like the same episode as the slogan contest, though (the whole plot centered on Telly's demands). I can see how someone might confuse the two!
It's a good thing Telly probably didn't comment on the store's lack of X items. What would David have done--point out a flyer for xylophone lessons posted in the window? (Bob does teach music, so that'd be one way to fit the instrument in! :p )
This part I vaguely remember...Don rhymed...
I wish PBS Sprout would air a "Retro" block after the last run of the Good Night Show; who the heck is watching with their kids at 3 am, or can't find Barney/Elmo's World-era Sesame Street at some hour that doesn't require overnight recording? PBS and Sesame Workshop are both missing a golden...
That's one way to teach kids "Don't let your imagination run away with you"...I haven't seen the sketch you described, but it sounds like it's worth looking for.
You've seen my Top 5 list; now here are my Bottom 5, least favorite recurring segments.
Trash Gordon: Gordon's in-joke identity might have been as funny as Super Grover, if they'd (a) tied his adventures to the street story or (b) not made the Things of the Day sound like afterthoughts. (Using...
My personal Top 5 segments (I'd include more but I ran out of space):
Bert and Ernie's Great Adventure: Characters who've had great chemistry since Episode 1, done in a claymation style Henson would probably love, solving problems in a surreal situation. It feels like the 70s all over...
The way most episodes focus on the same 4-5 Muppets now, I was worried that the Count was next on the list of characters to be retired. Thank goodness for the math curriculum this season; it's keeping a classic Muppet out of mothballs!
As for Herry: Elmo does need a big-kid Muppet for a...
That makes 1, 2...2 of us (ah! ah! ah!). But once Sesame Workshop decides to give a classic character the axe, odds are good that we won't see them again. (Unless the show manages to survive till Season 50, of course; we might get a 10-second cameo spot then!)
On a more optimistic note, it...
Agreed! As my holiday gift this year, I asked my folks to order a new tier of cable channels that includes Sprout (which just got added to their line-up in November). It's good to see classic clips even in EW-era shows, but not so good to watch the same rotation of episodes for 2-3 weeks in a...
I'm guessing that since some sponsor letters have already been repeated this season (two F episodes?), the rehashed Season 39 episodes don't count against the usual total of one per letter. So we might still see the Telly/Oscar sketch about N this season... *keeps her fingers crossed*
Thank Heaven the police blotter in that kid's hometown didn't publish a photo of him "doing time" at the store. The last thing Sesame fans need is more proof that Bert Is Evil...:zany: I'm betting the guy will hate Muppets as much as he hates shoplifting, by the time his punishment ends.
I haven't seen a show from this season with G as Letter of the Day yet; but the episode must be coming very soon if Sesame Workshop added the clip to their site today.
The gravity episode in review
The good points:
The best balance of classic and new characters, Muppets and humans that I've seen in years. I loved watching Snuffy and Big Bird hit it off old-style, then turning to Gordon for the answer to a science question. Abby's latest wish-granting...
Then again, a very early episode centered on Cookie Monster minding the store for Mr. Hooper...and keeping a promise not to eat any of the cookies in stock. Our favorite monster kept the letter of the promise, despite growing hungrier on the job: he eats first other food items, then non-food...
My favorite "general counting" segments, some of which are pretty obscure:
A multi-part sketch where the Count withdraws all his money at the bank, in singles, to count out the balance himself. (I distinctly remember him getting just over the $1 million mark, pretty impressive to a child of...
Awww! If only I knew enough about his work behind the scenes, I'd do a tribute slideshow on YouTube...the Muppet Wiki entry is a start but not quite enough.
That makes at least two of us. Bert didn't even react to Abby and Elmo the way I expected him to ("Leave me alone so I can find the blue-bar pigeon, OK? You guys can't even tell a pigeon from a chickadee...") Someone else already suggested that Bert should've been the one to ID the other...
Amen! They're even recycling hacked-up episodes from Season 39 this year, and some of those don't fit the nature initiative. (Bringing back the firefly episode today I can understand, but did kids really need to see "Sock Chaos at the Laundromat" redone?) You're right, though, that these past...
