I definitely recall seeing that cartoon as a girl; some of the older episodes in my collection might have it too, but I'll have to check. Oddly enough, the sight of the animals stripped down to walking skeletons never scared me; I was crazy about monsters and spooky stuff back then, unlike most...
By the way--tusen tack to WorldofSesame for posting those Swedish clips! It felt strange (but exciting) to see so many of my favorite bits from the 80s, dubbed into a language I love to speak and hear. :D What surprised me most, though, is the dub of Kermit's "African Alphabet" song: the...
First time I've seen it in any language--the visual comedy is first-rate! It must have aired back in Season 1 of the US version, since Jim Henson did lots of popular-song "covers" (same tune and iyrics, new performers) when "Sesame Street" first aired.
Likes: Helping people, solving problems, making friends, traveling, hugging
Dislikes: Not being understood, not being able to help, taking "no" for an answer on the job
Powers and abilities: Cuteness, superior intelligence, jack-of-all-trades; in one identity, also has (poor) super flight and a...
Most of you have said what I was going to say about the street scene and the "Got the Moves" song, except for one observation: if I were a butterfly, I'd suspect that a much larger creature in disguise was a potential predator instead of a friend. Maybe Gordon, science teacher that he is...
Today's episode was OK as social-development episodes go; seeing Gordon in pink when he told Baby Bear about gender clichés got the point across without running it into the ground. So did Curly Bear's offhand decision to play with the truck at the end of the street scene. (I half expected the...
That makes two of us who thought the same thing; I was half expecting Bert to show up with Bernice, so BOTH of them could give that rude pigeon "what for".
I wasn't the only one who thought of Pino and FTB, either. They should have given Big Bird a throwaway line referencing one of those...
Two Sesame parodies that would have worked after The Lion King hit the theaters:
"The Circles in Life" (to "The Circle of Life"): spotting round objects in everyday environments
"What You're Feeling, It's All Right" (to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"): emotions in stressful situations
What was the original song that EC parodied in "Ate My Red 2"? Since I'm not that familiar with popular music, seeing the original lyrics might help me get some of the jokes.
You and I think alike: now that Sesame Workshop has actually produced an episode that adults interpret as an "addiction story", do you think Elmo will replace Cookie Monster as the main character in those cutaway gags? (Maybe not, since Elmo did kick the pacifier habit eventually; but the odds...
I agree that Sesame Workshop is getting lazier and lazier with their repeat episodes; they used to add new segments and even change the Things of the Day (at least since Season 40). Just slapping a new episode number onto an unchanged rerun is dishonest--like selling last year's detergent...
Almost any of the old Bert and Ernie sketches are laugh-your-rear-off funny; my Top 3 would be these--
Ernie bathing with an assortment of non-bath-related objects, which he rationalizes with bizarre "just in case" scenarios...and Bert looking flabbergasted when everything happens as Ernie...
I actually started a tentative spoof over in the Fan Art section, based on that very idea. (And hey--"messed up" or "mixed up" would be the perfect substitute for the offending phrase, considering the parody's topic!)
After someone brought up the "Mumford and Sons" idea (in a thread about Season 41), I took a look at the original lyrics for "Little Lion Man" and started knocking them around in my head. Even replacing the swearword in the chorus is easier than it looked at first; "messed up" or "mixed up"...
At least the money initiative isn't the center of attention that first week, judging by the street stories. Here's hoping the science lessons don't involve too many (ugh!) guessing games this time....
So far, all I could afford was half the package--so I spent 13 dollars on all the Season 1 shows, Telly's debut, and Barkley's renaming. The rest will have to wait for a month, but it'll be totally worth the time!
I too keep my collection of Sesame Street episodes (about 65+ now) on an external hard drive; when an hour of video takes up half a gigabyte, I need all the room a fan can get! :insatiable:
I'm guessing that Cookie Monster was evolving into a more childlike character--the equivalent of 2-3 years old, with speech patterns to match. (Kids that young do have trouble with pronouns!) His behavior is also more monster-like than that of the friendlier talking monsters on Sesame Street...
