The "Nostalgia Over Things You Didn't Even Live Through" Thread

I haven’t heard of these guys either, but I like their 70s vibe. Shades of the Raspberries and Badfinger. Neat! it’s funny how some bands make it and others don’t. Yes is one of my favorite bands. Their first two albums were really good, but sold poorly and got very little radio exposure. (...

The new What Made You Smile Today thread

Happy Memorial Day. On the surface, yes, it’s the beginning of summer, barbecues, hot dogs, people hitting the beach (why is beyond me. Yes it’s nice to be out in the sun, but the water is still cold. It really doesn’t warm up til the 4th of July). But the idea is to remember everyone who...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

Trump met with a number of people representing thousands of restaurants nationwide. Not just owners of big chains and franchisees but individual mom and pop places. I’ve worked in enough restaurants and know how they operate. In restaurants (and to a degree grocery stores, markets, farmers...

Could Between the Lions ever come back?

Part of it has to do with the writing. Sesame Street, Electric Company, BTL, never talked down to kids, never dumbed down the message. They were crafted so parents could watch and get drawn into the scene. Barney could never do that.

If you’re not up to date, what am I? The last time I was up on the latest vernacular, “crazy” was “crae crae “. I’ve become your parents. Run!!!!!

Remembering Jim Henson, 30 years after May 16, 1990

30 years? Where does time go? It doesn’t move me too much that Jim is gone, but that he’s been gone so long. So many people’s lifetimes, and a good chunk of mine. The one song they played on the radio that day was Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Just like he did it on the Muppet Show...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

March 25 governor Cuomo had the bright idea to send infected patients back to the nursing homes. April 9 our governor Murphy did the same thing. Bad policy led to thousands dying. And last night Cuomo shrugged it off “Hey, people are gonna die. Stuff happens”. He rolled the dice, came up snake...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

Everybody wants this country to repent. Small businesses are hurting, restaurants, etc. But those running that farmer’s market shot themselves in the foot by not wearing gloves or masks. Local authorities can fine them, but just because one place makes an obvious violation, doesn’t mean the...

My mom is in the hospital

I’m no stranger to hospitals. Being hooked up to an IV is very common. Usually if your body is deficient in some minerals, they’ll pump them into you. Nothing to be afraid of. The only thing that sucks with this virus is hospitals are not allowing visitors. You should still be able to call her...

    What made you angry today?

There was someone on here years ago who faked his own death. Once it was found out to be a hoax, he was shunned like the plague. I guess he wanted to find out what people would say about him after he “died”, but the whole thing blew up in his face. I think everyone knows at least one person who...

    Jerry Stiller dead at 92

Funny guy. Loved him on Seinfeld. If Peter Boyle wasn’t cast as Frank Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, Stiller would’ve been a good fit.

None Like it Hot: The "I Hate the Heat" Club

When I was between 8 and 12, cold weather was guaranteed any weekend us Boy Scouts went camping. Even as late as May, it would be nice during the day, but at night the temps would plunge to freezing. Even when I went camping with my family in the summer, nights would get bitterly cold. My dad...

None Like it Hot: The "I Hate the Heat" Club

Up here, for the first time ever, we had snow. In May. Just a dusting, but unmistakably snow. We’ve had snow in April before, but this is new, even for me.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

They reported on the news, because of the virus, a lot of meat packing plants because people were getting sick. So meat prices are rising, and we might see a possible shortage. The only other time I’ve seen this was in the early 70s, when I was about five. Out of necessity, Hamburger Helper was...

I’m enjoying this. @Old Thunder, when this tale is done, what would you do next? Wuthering Heights? The Crucible? A Separate Peace? Or would you go to Disneyland?😃
