The Food Thread (Non Instagram Edition)

White Castle used to (maybe still does) have a reputation for less-than-healthy meat. They used to be called Ratburgers. But then again, where else can you go when you’re hung over, 3 am, and have four bucks in your pocket? You guessed it. There was a certain mystique of the folks who came in at...

The Food Thread (Non Instagram Edition)

A lot of places have their version of a Southwest burger. Lettuce, bacon, cheddar, BBQ sauce, and FRIED ONIONS!! Medium well. Most fast food joints don’t give you a choice of how done you want it. I don’t want it burned to a crisp, but I don’t want it mooing either.

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

I’m 52. If you’re younger than me, chances of you dying from COVID is astronomically low. If you have no pre-existing conditions, the chances are even lower. You have odds in your favor.

Out With the Old, In With the New! The New Year's Thread

It’s 9 pm here on the East Coast. It’s already 2021 in Europe, so very soon this year will be history. Right now my wife and I have shrimp cocktail, mozzarella sticks, little snacky things until midnight comes. Since my drinking days are behind me, I have a bottle of sparkling cider to ring in...

I know a lot of celebrities died this year, but every year celebrities die. Unfortunately you can’t change when your time is up. I’m not trying to be the Grim Reaper, but that moment will come for all of us. Probably me first But I’m not living in fear of that day, because death is not the end...

Alex, in spite of having a lot of crap to deal with, you still found things to be thankful for. I appreciate that. And remember. We’re always going to have hard times. But that’s when we grow. the most.

Out With the Old, In With the New! The New Year's Thread

This was not the best year for many. But my highlight was coming off dialysis on my birthday. That’s as good of a present as anyone can get. I have my health, I have my peace.

    1) I love corn dogs. Hush puppies as well. 2) We have a Waffle House as far north as Bethlehem, PA. It’s a trek to get there, but worth it. 3) In an episode of Bonkers, the Piquel family sat down to a feast of Belgian waffles. If you weren’t hungry for waffles by the end, you must’ve been blind.

    Dawn Wells dead at 82

So Ginger is the last surviving castaway? Dawn Wells was the same age as my mom. She was still making commercials until a few years ago, and still looked pretty hot. Maybe she meant long-running in terms of syndication.

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

Coming up on New Year’s Eve, Ryan Seacrest seems to have inherited the host role from Dick Clark. Clark was brave to carry on in his final years, but his stroke really did a number on him. Having had one two years ago, strokes are extremely painful. I am blessed my speech or motor skills didn’t...

I never used to eat cole slaw because I didn’t like mayo. Now I can’t get enough of it. But too much mayo drowns it. TGI Friday’s used to have this ginger lime slaw which was fantastic. There’s a million ways to make slaw, having the right amounts of sweetness, acidity, and crunch. Like pizza...

The place I used to work at made kimchi. Too spicy even for me. Sauerkraut is okay once you rinse the brine out of it. I make a crock pot recipe with pork chops. Rinse the kraut, add some brown sugar, and it comes out great. I’m not a relish guy, but one place makes it good. There’s a hot dog...

To each his own. I’ll put a lot of toppings on hot dogs- mustard, cheese, chili, onions, bacon- but to me ketchup on a hot dog is taboo. And sauerkraut is nasty.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

This might be before your time for some of you. But AIDS mutated over time as well. For the better part of a decade, many tested positive (Magic Johnson) and died (Freddie Mercury). It was as deadly as COVID, but that didn’t stop people from sleeping around.

    Questions about anything

The last time I had cable, they offered over 200 channels, and I ended up watching only three. Food Network, News12, and CBS just to watch The Price Is Right. At least Optimum was more reliable than Comcast will ever be.

    Questions about anything

Yes. Now with Hulu, Disney Plus, etc. there’s really no need for cable anymore.
