    RIP: Caroly Wilcox

I just got a text Caroly Wilcox passed away. No details, but Caroly was a Muppet builder for years, along with Don Sahlin and Kermit Love. There is a clip from Sesame’s first season about First and Last. Hippie Grump plays Follow The Leader with a bunch of monsters. A photo exists of who was...

I know in most of the country, for good pizza you have to rely on the chains. Unless you’re from New York or Chicago. Around here, any local mom and pop place would put any chain to shame. And as Will Ferrell points out in Elf, and this is true. in Manhattan, there are a million pizza places...

Who do you think will take Alex Trebek’s place on Jeopardy?

He made a video once upon a time called “I Lost On Jeopardy!” It’s a match made in heaven.

Christmas: Are they shoving it down our throats too early?

Well, the postal system has been hit hard this year. In top of regular mail, Amazon ships a lot of product through the post office. A few years back, before Amazon got as big as it is now, they made a deal with the post office to handle their freight at a discount rate. Now that Amazon has...

I comment on politics as much as the next guy. Like it or not, gecisions made in Washington have an effect on all of us. Some of us may strongly disagree, but I still try to maintain a level of civility. Just because someone disagrees with me doesn’t make them evil. And that kind of...

Way back when, I got a plastic ring in Cracker Jack. Typical of the 70s, it glowed in the dark.

Kettle corn is great too. For years when I was younger, I always loved making my own popcorn. One popper just took a tablespoon of oil, and popped very well. It had a clear dome top so you can see the kernels popping. When you’re done popping, you flip it over and the dome becomes a bowl. Even...

Yes indeed. WalMart, Target, cVS, even supermarkets have them. Not a bad investment for five bucks.

Microwave popcorn is a mystery. A third of the kernels get burnt, a third don’t pop at all, and the edible third is usually oily. You do much better at Christmastime, when stores are selling those popcorn tins. I’m working on one now. Part is butter flavored, part is cheese flavored, but half...

It still amazes me how long that clip was in circulation. I can understand the Workshop’s rationale for chopping off the last ten seconds. But then new viewers are left wondering why it stops right there. Yes, I know how it ends, I lived through it. But it’s no worse than dozens of other Sesame...

It makes me smile whenever I come across any of your gems.. just yesterday I enjoyed “The World’s Greatest Counter” where Ernie tortures Bert. Maybe soon we’ll see the complete version with Bert freaking out at the end. In English. It’s hilarious now, but when I was little, seeing Bert banging...

    What made you think today?

It’s a matter of discipline and commitment.. Every New Year people vow they’ll hit the gym, eat better, lose weight, the whole deal. January 2 gyms are full. By the end of the month, 90% quit. Super Bowl Sunday rolls around, and people go back to their old bad habits. I’m as guilty as everyone...

I stumbled on your Evolution of Little Jerry and the Monotones. Great job. Props to you. It’s funny, at the beginning, they could’ve been a real heavy psychedelic band in keeping with the times, but their roots are squarely in fifties doo -wop. But it’s all good.
