    An Interesting Article

Lol, exactly. Well I guess the author's concern was that learning can't always be easy and fun, especially when you get older, and kids can't always expect an instant reward. Though personally I don't recall comparing school to Sesame Street that way as a kid. Good point, Amusing Ourselves to...

Anyone else think the internet destroyed the element of surprise?

I remember our college film club screening The Village. The film had just finished its theatrical release so a lot of people had seen it and there was plenty of opportunity for the big surprise ending to have been passed around to the public. Still, when the surprise ending was revealed at our...

    An Interesting Article

Actually Sesame Street has always been under attack, from the very beginning. There was a book from the 1980's, Amusing Ourselves to Death. It's a great book, but the author was concerned that Sesame Street was promoting too much of an instant reward system for learning. How could kids pay...

The Bible and Love and Christians

Lol, yeah I don't really have an excuse. You know I never really thought about it but I'm probably more used to reading about the Bible than actually reading the Bible itself, lol. I don't regret that though, I think historical and spiritual analysis is important. Do you read about the Bible at...

The Bible and Love and Christians

Lol, it's OK. Actually I honestly don't read it a lot. Probably because I got plenty of exposure in like 16 years of Catholic school, lol. And even then it wasn't so much the Bible, but rather textbooks on the Bible, which were frankly a lot more interesting than Algebra, lol. But anyway, I...

The Bible and Love and Christians

Lol, I hate when that happens! You know I think that's even important for Christians to do. Just push away all the layers and trampings of 1000 years and just concentrate on what Jesus the man said and did in his lifetime. You know people got so angry over John Lennon's "We're More Popular...

The Bible and Love and Christians

I think what everyone's trying to say is that we're trying more to make the effort not to target each other, but just bring to light those who are causes problems in society in the first place. The Muppets certainly had their share of bad guys they had to defeat. ;)

It's also your right to think your way. Don't forget that. And even when you're wrong about other issues (as we all can be), it's still your right to think that way. I think we all take that for granted in this country. We have a sense of fairness that way, that many other countries can't imagine.

Well it might also just be a perception that we're arguing with each other, as opposed to debating. But I do think for the most part we've just been debating. Like you say, it's nice to have stimulating converstion on things that are important to us. :) All very compelling reasons. ;)

    Famous Kermit quotes

Kermit: "Well, let us consider the question here! How does big fat Santa Claus get down those skinny chimneys? Well. Ahem. Let us look at it from another angle. Uh. Returning to the first angle, uh, it's a simple matter of, uh... y'know, I never thought about it before. How does he do it?!" :)...

The Bible and Love and Christians

The thread has had some rocky times but we have had discussions about how to deal with it better and I think we have made real progress. Which is great, it shows that people can eventually get along despite differences of opinion, which is actually very appropriate for the Muppets. :) As far as...

Thankfully, mainstream Mormons today wouldn't jump at a chance for polygamy, lol. But I do know what you mean. Polygamy isn't specifically forbidden in the Bible, yet Mormons have decided for themselves that it's wrong. So why are they being so rigid on gay marriage?

Well to be fair, she has since said that she didn't actually say those things. It's that she signed some kind of petition or statement for a group that did say those things elsewhere. Plus she herself was raised by a single parent. I think this proves that she should be more careful about who...

Ugh, lol, like I said, I'm all "debated out!" But for you I'll give it a whirl. (Again, I'm not talking about here, just tiring experiences elsewhere). Yes you're right, I think it was a purposeful strategy. I'm not entirely sure why that was chosen at that point in time. Perhaps someone more...
