    Nursery Rhyme Reflections

All I can think of is that Buffy episode where the phrase "the cheese stands alone" figured heavily, lol.

BOO! The "What Scared You Today?" Thread

Yeah when actors are going around with strange haircuts it's often times for a role. Fans kept demanding Matthew Broderick cut his side burns, apparently not realizing he had grown them for a play, lol.

    When you need to rant...

Squinting does help for like a split second but it's not worth it and I don't want to create wrinkles, lol.

Anyone worried about the next generation?

I guess what I'm saying is talk is cheap. Children are in fact being educated, but talk can only go so far. I do agree about nurturing of course; many of these kids just lack a solid foundation from the start.

    Last movie you watched

Totally agree, I actually did get to see Casablanca on the big screen recently. It was amazing watching it with a group with everyone laughing at all the right moments and all (plus as you say having the snacks at hand, lol).

    Last movie you watched

Thank goodness for that! Of course it would be nice to see one of those in the theaters once and awhile too. Hehe ;)

    Last movie you watched

Avatar is your typical "use special effects to cover up a mediocre storyline." I used to like Titanic and I still think the drowning scenes are very effective, but the characters are little better than cardboard, lol.

Anyone worried about the next generation?

The thing is you can educate people til you're blue in the face and some still won't listen. That's when, unfortunately, they often need to be incarcerated for the safety of the rest of the population.

    Any recommendations for visiting NYC?

I can attest to that, lol. I would only recommend that walk during a really nice day, lol.

Ready for the latest 80's childhood fave movie remake?

Yeah pretty much the same dialogue. I did think the weak point was the songs. They just took all the big lines from the film and built songs around them and not always successfully.

Ready for the latest 80's childhood fave movie remake?

Agreed. I thought Springtime for Hitler was much more epic in the musical version (makes sense, lol). And in turn the original movie has that moment where you see Max and Leo's mournful looks as the audience is laughing and it's perfect. Something you couldn't do in the stage musical. I was...

What was the last Henson thing you watched?

Watched Muppets Take Manhattan a few days ago, it's funny I always have flashbacks to my frame of mind when I used to watch the film as a kid. Plus it has such a gorgeous soundtrack, if any Muppet music deserved an Oscar it was MTM. Can't always depend on the Academy of course, hehe. :coy:

Ready for the latest 80's childhood fave movie remake?

The Broadway musical was definitely a rare occasion when a remake really worked because they tried a completely new take on an old idea. Though I don't think it was better than the original movie, it was just different. Plus when they tried putting the stage musical in movie form for some reason...

Rainbow Brite I agree, lol. With the Care Bears, it depended on the incarnation, it could occasionally be rather atmospheric.

Anyone worried about the next generation?

In some cases probably, but mainly to sell toys, lol. However I would also argue that cartoons in the '80s often actually had a darker streak that cartoons just don't have the brains for today.

Ready for the latest 80's childhood fave movie remake?

Remakes get such a bad name because they usually are disasterous in real life. And yes I know this thread is a joke. But the problem of remakes is not. Remakes of flops actually make sense. It's remaking classics that are unnecessary and usually disasterous. Exactly, the key word there...

Your Thoughts: "Being Elmo" Kevin Clash documentary on DVD and PBS

I really enjoyed this documentary, I loved how much footage and photos they were able to find, especially featuring Richard Hunt. Kevin's story is very inspirational to anyone trying to make it in a tough business. And I really loved the part where Elmo narrates Kevin's daughter's birth, that...

Ready for the latest 80's childhood fave movie remake?

Hopefully in the future textbooks on the subject will look back on this period in film history as that rather pathetic time when studios preferred to butcher classics than come up with original ideas. ;) I can count on one hand how many remakes or whatevers have truly been quality films. But...
