I'm glad you brought up Grover. That's a perfect example of how a recast can shine.
I still think there's some sort of negotiations behind the scenes or else Disney would have confirmed (at least to the fans) that the torch had been passed. It's easy to see how much Steve enjoys performing...
"...Bueller...Bueller..." This new faux Kermit voice has this Ben Stein monotone drag that doesn't sound like Jim to me. Not being mean there. It perfectly illustrates what I'm talking about in calling this an impersonation rather than a performance. That's where the missing spark is. No...
Steve Whitmire Appreciation Thread!
:) Steve seems to be MIA recently and fans are understandably crazed about it. I'm glad there's a thread about that deserving topic, but this one is limited to talk about all the wonderful Steve things. No matter how things are with the state of the frog (and...
I agree with you 100%. I'm still hoping this is a momentary snag that will get cleared up soon. I can't imagine a new Muppet movie without Steve under the frog.
One thing that keeps being brought up is new characters for both old and new performers. As long as we get a mix of Kermit, Fozzie...
Ooooh, I was going to say that I hope Artie is just Kermit's George Lazenby. Either that or if Artie has really been given Kermit then the approach should be very different. It's still coming off as an impression or impersonation of Kermit.
I have to completely disagree with everything stated in this quoted portion.
IMHO, this new "Shmermit the Forg" is a hollow impersonation of what the performer perceives to be Jim Henson's Kermit instead of really trying to inhabit the frog himself and lend his own Kermitness to the role as...
I agree with you. The quality and consistency of Kermit the Frog is what distinguishes him and keeps him from being an empty icon. Kermit has never suffered the watered-down Mickey Mouse fate of serving as a bland figurehead. He has wit, soulfulness and energy. All of that was sorely missing in...
Total wild speculation here, but wouldn't it be great if the core performers were pulling away from performances in support of Steve? Maybe there's some weirdness happening with contract negotiations all around. Or maybe Gonzo just got bumped. It's anyone's guess.
Man, the post about it was even deleted from Muppet Newsflash. What's up? Did any Muppet appear tonight? Some of the posts here earlier made it seem so.
1942's "Der Fuehrer's Face" featured Donald Duck wearing a Nazi uniform (at one point he even resembled Hitler); however it was all a bad dream for Donald. He wakes up in patriotic pajamas at the end.
This was a propaganda film shown during war time. The humor was directed at making fun of...
I think you're being a little negative but I understand it. We've been burned in the past.
The Halloween special was pulled this year in favor of a 2010 release so that it wouldn't suffer the same -rushed- fate as Letters to Santa. I think we can count on this special...next year. And the...
Disney wouldn't stop promoting the Muppets due to some fan complaints on performance quality. I'm glad we're making our voices heard. I think there's a chance they'll listen. Whatever it takes to get Steve back under the frog. :)
Not a good flipper forward
I guess many of us just don't think we should be seeing a replacement Kermit at all. Steve's Kermit is Kermit.
Everyone here is grading the performance and not the person. We all like Artie.
For the Muppets to work the persona must be cultivated as an extension of...
Kermit Dud
I agree we shouldn't speculate about Steve. In the end the performers are all freelancers. Scheduling isn't always an easy task. I just hope somebody gives us news soon!
I encourage fans to go to Muppets.com and look at the job Steve does with Kermit. 19 years as the frog has...
