I went to see a screening of Muppets Go to the Movies at The Paley Center for Media awhile back. There was a little kid in the audience asking her Mom a ton of questions, clearly not getting some things. Her Mom asked if she wanted to leave but she said, "No, I like the Muppets!" :)
And I was...
Oh that was just pure nonsense to think he was in any way qualified. I can't tell if he knew this himself and just wanted the publicity (certainly possible) or really thought he had a chance.
Good points everybody, and again I don't mean to be a downer, I guess it just comes from looking at the Internet user comments under news stories too many times. The worse examples of both "sides" tend to gravitate towards those, lol.
Yeah pretty much. Our "election" does not exactly bring out the best in anyone. Perhaps because subconsciousness we know just how little power we really have.
There's no question that the Republicans have gone too far in their hostility towards the middle and working class. And too many people have a sort of Stockholm Syndrome where they think the Republicans are speaking for them when really they're creating half of these problems. Not that the...
I have to say though some of what we call race issues in this country is really more like poverty issues. If we didn't have so many struggling areas in this country a lot of our problems would be improved.
I do get that but I guess what I'm saying is the feuding shows no signs of dissipating and sometimes it feels like that's all there is. Conservatives and liberals need each other to fight with in order to have their identities and it's just destructive.
Very intriguing topic, Snowth!
Honestly I've never had that "January is a new beginning" feeling. I've tried to but it's definitely a forced effort. Not that that's a bad thing. January isn't really any different from any other month. And maybe your new beginning will happen to be in March...
Yeah I do admire them for proving that you can be inclusive and respectful without getting all uptight. Christmas is, at its heart, a story about a baby and that's all you need for starters. Though yeah I think a lot of specials in general are a little confused about Kwanzaa actually, heh...
That that guy shouldn't talk, lol. ;)
But about the Sesame Street special, I agree most of the dialogue is laughably painful and Oscar's little redemption story is a bit too forced. As others have said, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street did more with just a couple of cute moments.
HOWEVER, I...
Thanks guys, yeah it's better today. It's nice how things can change from the beginning of the week to the end. I definitely understand how you feel Charlie and hope things are calmer now.
I've always seen this as similar to the Star Wars holiday special. Very typically '70s, to have a meandering plot, a bunch of random celebrity cameos and several "what the heck were they thinking" moments, lol.
But I'll probably buy it if it is available, or at least ask a relative if they'd...
It had its hits and its misses. Some of the TV movies and the Storyteller series were amazing. I liked some of the individual episodes like the environmental message in the Ted Danson episode. And of course the behind the scenes stuff in Secrets of the Muppets. But overall I'm not really...
Not to sound like a downer but at this point I'm not sure what either side has accomplished in this situation...besides choosing sides of course. That seems to be all we're good at in this country lately, lol.
Not always. Sometimes it's more like "why aren't you having some perspective?" Hollywood does have double standards about who they are terrified of offending and who they just don't care about.
When I saw The Dark Knight I couldn't help but laugh in the theater every time he spoke; I mean what were they thinking? To try so hard to affect this over the top tough voice just makes it sound like his own voice must not be adequate and needed enhancement. It felt like an emperor's new...
See for me the projects you mention here had little of the irreverent style or spirit you're talking about. They've never represented the Muppets for me. In fact they were the times when they didn't feel timeless, but rather desperate to appear modern. So it's a very personal thing. ;)
