Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
It's probably stuck at Weinstein for the next couple years unless they decide to free it up and pass. I think they intend to make a Fraggle movie, but they also could be holding onto it for the prestige of doing something with a band name even if they're not. I don't think that's the case. Right...
There's some good stuff out there. A quick internet search brought up a few examples. It's just that this is sometimes the *only* thing out there for collectors above 12. A lot of it can be found cheaply if you get it at the time of release.
I did see some Scott Pilgrim stuff out there, but...
I think you're right. I love that classic logo. This new cartoony one has always made my eyes hurt. It's hard to reinvent such a classic brand look so they shouldn't try. Just polish it up and make it shiny again!
Calling the film "The Muppets" works for me. I understand the apprehension of...
How I see it...
Here's the skinny. As far as the economy goes, the sky's been falling for quite a while and this means belt-tightening for everybody from manufacturers to consumers.
1. Few people want to put out a toy that costs more than $9.99 these days. My managing a toy store has given...
I like this list.
Oh, and I love Gaga! I see her as the Andy Warhol of club pop. I could see him hanging out with her back in his day. It would be great for the Muppets if she provided a song for the soundtrack. She's practically a Muppet anyway.
Christmas is on a Sunday next year, so it could come out the Friday before and rake in big weekend business when families are all together wanting to see a film appropriate and enjoyable for all ages. It could just work! ;)
It seems summery to me too, but the Muppets have always done well with all things Christmas. Maybe that's it. They might gain that bump the Chipmunks Movie did a few Christmasses ago instead of getting lost in a summer of competitive eyecandy.
They've already started shooting so Walter will probably look somewhat like the image in Entertainment Weekly. The Muppets featured in the magazine spreads are posers, not production puppets, so I don't think they're an accurate judge of the production models. I hope some of the designs improve...
A presumptuous title like "The Great Muppet Comeback" is also a bad idea because critics will root for failure. Maybe simply "The Muppets Return" or "The Muppets Hollywood Misadventure" might work. I think the key is something simple.
I suspect there will be many in the Muppet fan community who will be upset by this film, but I like the idea of it as long as it’s clever. It would be nice to have a film distinguish popular puppetry from kids’ stuff, church evangelism or folk art. All that stuff has a place too, but puppetry is...
The idea that "Space" was in the title of a Muppet film and no Muppets actually went to space (the cosmic fish dream doesn't count) or reference Pigs in Space was a big let down. I love the convention idea and maybe a little Galaxy Quest style plot would have better framed the picture.
I...
Not to get too off subject, but this is a very broad-stroked overview of a more Muppety path for MFS. It includes bits from the rumored real ending.
Act I:
Title Card in Outer Space
Gonzo Dream Noah’s Ark Sequence
Opening Musical Number (but an original song)
Breakfast Scene (but more...
I think this is where they should go too. Why not make another Animal puppet with movable eyebrows? The Muppets have to be big enough again for such retail items, but they're getting there.
I liked Oz better. At least it kind of held true to the original story and had some original songs. Most people also forget that the DVD is the extended version so it takes longer for Kermit and the gang to show up in that version. I think Thatcher is absolutely great with Muppets, but it was...
The way I'd say it is that MFS helped make Pepe a star. He's such an easy character to embrace right out of the gate. In my estimation, Pepe is the saving grace of MFS for most fans and normal people alike.
I think successful Muppet movies need the juxtaposition of both the spectacular and...
