What would be good for glasses?

You could also use styrene or a similar plastic if sturdiness is a concern.

    Jim Kroupa Mechanisms Coach

That's from the O'Neill National Puppetry Conference and the "kids" are somewhat established puppeteers actually lol. Jim teaches a multi-day workshop in rod puppet mechanics there every summer. It's a very good conference, but you have to apply to attend. I tried to take Jim's workshop last...

Puppeteering in Front of a Greenscreen?

I use Final Cut Pro and Adobe CS5 Production Premium (which includes After Effects, Photoshop, etc.), but you don't need expensive software like that, especially when you are starting out. If you have good lighting, almost any editing software can do a decent job of keying these days. Final Cut...

What would be good for glasses?

I've been collecting various random glasses in a small box for years just in case they are ever needed. It's surprising how many times they've come in handy.

    Puppeteer's Resources Links

Whtrom is right that the best way to learn is to just start building, make mistakes and learn from them. Don't worry about building your perfect or ideal puppet right away, just start making puppets. To get started you might want to check out the puppet building videos from Playsoup. Their...

Where in the world is Antron Fleece?

Oh, see I thought that was per yard lol. I am going to stop posting, get off the internet and go to bed...hopefully my reading comprehension improves after some sleep. lol

Furry Puppet custom built puppet for sale

Hey guys, Furry Puppet custom built this puppet for a project at Unraku back in 2009 and now because we've got too many props and puppets in storage we're looking to sell some of the stuff that wasn't built in-house. We'll entertain offers over $300 U.S. & up for this puppet (it was...

Where in the world is Antron Fleece?

Yeah, I caught that after I typed my original post. I had come back to edit/delete it lol. Sorry. That is steep for shipping, especially within the US. I am sending some fabric to the states from Canada and it's costing less than $10 per yard.

Where in the world is Antron Fleece?

$17-20 is not steep for quality faux fur, especially the longer hair. I do realize that it's important to work within your budget, but I've had to pay $30, $40 even $80 per yard for good, quality fur.

    Erect ears

Light weight armature wire works great; you want to use a gage that is thick enough that it has some strength, but not too heavy.

    Vacuum Form Question

Ah, of course. I don't know if I can help with your question, but when we do vacuforming at Unraku (unless it's a one-off) the original piece is sculpted in clay, then a positive is cast in a plastic or resin. It's a few extra steps, but seems to produce better results. I would never think to...

    Vacuum Form Question

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you're using a rigid urethane foam to vaccuform eyes instead of thermal plastic?

    One Night Slam in Toronto

For those in or near Toronto, One Night Slam is a new, ongoing series of puppet slams hosted by Unraku that wil be held in different, unusual locations around Toronto during 2011. Some will take place in prominent public locations around the city, while others will be more intimate and unfold in...

    Audrey II

The show is currently licensed by Music Theatre International, which has had the rights to the show for at least the past decade. I think what you're referring to is "How To Audrey II", which is a book that (to my knowledge anyway) is only available to groups that license the rights to the show...

    Wanted: Hospital Safe Puppet Materials

You should look at puppet making books in the local library for ideas. "The Muppets Make Puppets" and John Kennedy's puppet making books are good. Lois Walker also wrote a number of really good books on making puppets from everyday objects; I'm pretty sure they're all out of print now, but many...

    The breath of life

I saw this when I was in Europe last year...it's stunning. Some of the best puppetry, anywhere, ever. There is a really good book about Handspring (which created the puppetry for Warhorse) that is sold at the show and available to order online. It provides an in-depth exploration of their...
