    Help Making a Small-Mouthed Puppet

There are a couple different ways to approach this, it really depends on your design. Generally, it's important to design the puppet so that its mouth is naturally open. If the mouth is naturally shut, every time a puppeteer tries to open it they have to displace material in the puppet's face...

Michigan Newbie Wanting to Learn to Puppet- Where to Start?

You should attend The Motor City Puppet Blast in Detroit this summer. They should have lots of great workshops. You can also find your closest PofA Guild on that web site and they can help keep you in the loop about other upcoming workshops and other events in your area.

How The Muppet Movie paved the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe

I wanted to share this post I just did on my blog about the role the Muppet Movie - and the Muppets in general - played in popularizing all those end credit scenes and post-credit scenes that we see all the time now in movies like The Avengers or Captain America: The Winter Soldier...

Vintage "MUPPET" View-Master Reel scans! Amazing Iconic Images!

Those are awesome! I had a bunch of those reels growing up. I'm pretty sure it's not the actual puppets in the shots, but more likely posers that were shot at the Henson photo studio in New York (it's still there, but I believe the upper floors are now the offices of the Jim Henson Legacy)...

Any puppeteers in the Dallas, TX area?

You should try contacting the Lone Star Puppet Guild (it's part of Puppeteers of America). That's probably a great way to meet and network with puppeteers in your area. https://www.facebook.com/LoneStarPuppetGuild

NBC contacted me after a reporter there saw the blog post. I put them in touch with the Teddy Ruxpin fan site that first reported the news and they posted the resulting story today: http://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/teddy-ruxpins-creator-ken-forsse-passes-away-n62996 It's nice to see...

Sad new...Teddy Ruxpin creator and animatronics pioneer Ken Forsse has passed away - http://puppetvisionmovie.com/2014/03/teddy-ruxpin-creator-ken-forsse/ Few people know that Ken actually started out building puppets and Teddy Ruxpin was always intended to be a live action puppet show.

Our New Puppet Web Series! Starship Sassafrass!

This is more of a general comment, but I think that if you're going to do teaser videos introduce characters it's very important to let the audience actually learn something about them. Marvel did this really well recently for their new movie "Guardians of the Galaxy". They have to get their...

    hand vs machine sewing

Hand sewing is usually the way to go because it allows more control over each individual stitch. Machine sewing will give you very even stitches, but a machine isn't really designed to do the kind of intricate work that's necessary to hide fleece seams in puppet hands and heads. With some...

    Feedback on puppet camera test.

I like it. The details on the costume and the hair are really good. I like designs with layers to them with separate pieces that can move with the puppet. I think that really help to sell the illusion that the character is alive. This is a subjective comment, but I would lower the camera and...

    How are Rat Puppets performed?

They're rod puppets. From what I understand the originals were extremely basic, just basically rats on sticks that could be wiggled around. Over the years they were rebuilt with more and more sophisticated mechanisms. This is a good example of a rod puppet mechanism: The design is...
