Sep 2005 Disney Muppet Auditions are over!

This is mostly true. However I recieved word last night that not everyone has been contacted yet, and will be in the next couple of weeks. Kind of running things tight...

how did u get into the muppets??

I was born in 1973, and we had cable in the late 70s. Do the math!

    Ladies from TMS season one

Whoa - please don't misconstrue what I said there... I did not mean that women puppeteers aren't funny! My God! My puppet mentor is a woman (with the Order of Canada)! My favourite co-worker with gigs in her troupe is also a woman. I was only speaking of the female cast members of The Muppet...

    New Characters

As soon as Clifford referred to himself as "Your Homey made of Foamy", I knew it'd be a stinker. The few precious Frank Oz moments were good, but too few, too late.

    The Muppets are getting worse

Actually, he joined Sesame Street in 1985 to do Elmo (you know, the little red Gungan Muppet whose taken the show hostage?). He had nothing to do with the original Muppet Show at all. He didn't cross into that world until the inconsistent 'Jim Henson Hour' where he brought the lame Clifford...

Muppets as british as fish n chips

To stay on topic, yes, the British element was definitely there to give it the "Zing" neede to separate it from the other stuff on TV at the time. And like I said in another thread, it all feels too cheap and American now. Where's the wit? My advice to Disney... get some perfect hybrids...

    The Muppets are getting worse

Kevin Clash??? Pfft. Frank Oz is/was the whole essence about what I loved about the Muppets (not take away the whole "Jim created the whole she-bang and hois characters are all awesome. He died, Frank didn't). What's his name does a pretty good Piggy, and a so-so Fozzie, but it ain't Frank...

Muppets as british as fish n chips

Perhaps they think it's British - in the UK. Not here though, nor in the States, I'm sure. By the way, how does a show that's been out of production for 25 years win an award for 2005?

    Ladies from TMS season one

Simple. Other than Piggy and Janice, the others just weren't funny enough. Especially the ones performed by women. Sorry ladies, but it's true.

Muppets as british as fish n chips

Well, I wouldn't go that far. Being neither Yank nor Limey I`d consider myself unbiased. True, the Muppet Show (1976-1981) was produced in London with many brits in the production team. And true, the show itself (particularily the music numbers) were deliberately geared towards a UK audience...

The big bear in Muppets from Space was funny. So was the gang of Rats. But man! The Mayhem stole the show in the 1st Muppet Movie. BRING THEM BACK!!!!

    The Muppets are getting worse

I thought that the "It's a Very Merry..." was not too bad. The problem with most of the recent stuff is the abscence of Frank Oz, in my opinion. It's all become too typically American now. I had a bad feeling about Oz as soon as I saw the cover for it. Some no-name r&b singer for Dorothy...

    New Characters

I sort of agree with you on this one. I mean, Pepe is funny, and introducing new characters is not always a bad thing. The thing about Muppets Tonight for me was that there were too many of them to get used to at once. I disliked Clifford from the get go - "I'm your homey made of foamy". Bleh...
