Someone posted on YouTube the Sesame clip of Yellow Submarine with the intro in English. The song has been posted before, but this is the first time uncut. The last time I saw this, I wasn’t even two years old yet. But I do distinctly remember Beautiful Day peeking through the porthole. 50...

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

We’ve come a long way with cancer in my lifetime. When I was little, any type of cancer was the kiss of death. It’s remarkable for women how many survived breast cancer. You don’t hear too much about lung cancer anymore, except for many who smoke. Pancreatic cancer still seems to be the one that...

    The "You know what?" thread

Some of those studies are misleading. It’s hard to tell if people are compatible just by looking at a picture. It’s been quite a while since I was in the dating market. A guy could be a total prick. But as long as he has a car and bucks, girls will still fight over him.

Usually material like that needs nails or staples to be hung right. Adhesives generally aren’t strong enough. if you do have to put some nails in the wall, you should be all right as long as you fill them in before you move out.

My wife likes Swiss, so I make a lot of Reubens for her. With everything else in there, corned beef, kraut, Thousand Island dressing, the melted Swiss doesn’t stand out so much. I got a pack of Kraft singles I use just for grilled cheeses. Gorgonzola works good too. I’ve tried different...

    RIP Billie Hayes

Like other Krofft villains, Witchiepoo wasn’t really evil. She was just a wacky eccentric, who wanted something she could not have, and surrounded by incompetent buffoons. Pufnstuf was definitely trippy, psychedelic with a vengeance. But it was just a teeny bit unsettling. Like being on a boat...

Part of the chewiness of the chicken can be due to the preservatives, and the chicken is cooked all the way through.

For the whole time I worked at Subway, I never had a chicken sandwich. No Teriyaki, nothing with chicken. Turkey and meatballs, yes.

Once upon a time at Subway, anything hot was microwaved. Things got much better in 2003 when we got the toaster ovens. The toaster ovens were part of a deal. Before Subway carried Pepsi drinks. Then Coke came in and said if we switched to Coke, they’d pay for the ovens.. It was a mixed blessing...

Happy Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you. Back in 1977 when the first film came out I was nine. I wish I could tell you back then what a big cultural moment that film was. Back then, there was barely any cable, no Netflix, no HBO plus, no Hulu, no DVDs or anything you have today. The only...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus News and Updates

Hugging is a form of love that everybody needs. From babies to old geezers. There is a gaping world of difference between hugs and sexual harassment. If you’re a parent, and you deprive your kid of physical contact, that kid will have some psychological maladjustment. You can’t starve them of...

    When you need to rant...

I still have fond memories of where my grandparents lived when I was little. Both sets of grandparents lived in Newark, NJ about a block away from each other. My father’s parents had a multi-family house, my mother’s parents lived in a 5th floor tenement. By the time I was nine they all moved...

I understand your feeling of grief, it’s a natural thing. It will pass. It just takes time. Wherever you are now, just keep trying to make good memories there. If you do have to move again, the change won’t seem so drastic.

    When you need to rant...

Maybe it would’ve been good to wait. My parents sold their old house 15 years ago. I met the new owner, nice guy. I’ve since seen the house from the outside, but never inside. It’s a mixed feeling. That was your old house, but it’s someone else’s now. I know sometimes it’s hard imagining someone...

I still eat Ramen occasionally. But without the salt bomb packets. Back in my broke college days, you could take Ramen, a can of beef stew, and a can of corn and get two meals out of it. For less than two bucks.

Being in a tropical climate like that, it’s going to be hot and humid like that. It’s a given. But many New York retirees still flock there in the winter. Miami is the snowbird capital. If it was up to me, I’d go to Arizona. The Florida heat doesn’t bother me but the humidity does a number on...

Apart from the fire and pregnancies, that sounds like my last twenty years. Disney World, Nashville, Niagara Falls, more hospital stays than I can count, meeting quite a few Sesame people, and stumbling on here by accident. But as Bob Ross said, there are no mistakes. Just happy accidents.
