    Happy Birthday D'Snowth

Another trip around the sun. Makes for thirty one plus one. Welcome to the world of coots and codgers. You don’t just measure your life in years, but decades.

See, in my time, the go-to place when you were stoned at 2 in the morning was White Castle.

Well, it’s been mentioned on a number of food and travel shows, so we had to give it a try. Sometimes locals take their home spots for granted. But for visitors coming for the first time, it’s a big deal. And we were not disappointed. If you ever feel inclined to come up here, I can show you...

The Food Thread (Non Instagram Edition)

Snowthy, you’d appreciate this. Back in 2012, I drove through Knoxville on my way to Nashville to see my sister. I stopped and ate at the Pizza Palace, nice retro neon-lit drive-in joint. Dang good pizza. When you think of Southern cooking, you think barbecue or soul food, not necessarily...

The only coupon books I remember, were usually sold as fundraisers by high school football teams, or such. I do get coupons occasionally in the mail, they’ll have Bogo coupons on Big Macs, or get a whole bundle of burgers, fries and drinks for twenty bucks. Some deals are pretty decent.

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

There’s several things that went wrong. 1) The guy shouldn’t be eyeing younger girls if his wife is right there. 2) The blonde girl didn’t look particularly slutty. Always a rumble revvin’ up at Walmart. It makes me a little sad this is how some people conduct themselves in public. It really...

    What made you angry today?

I don’t understand the legalities of these things, but I do agree he crossed a moral line. Hope this matter gets resolved.

The McRib has been around a lot longer than that. I’ve been enjoying it since 1980-something. There was a wave of sorrow when they took it off the menu. So when they bring it back, usually in the winter months, I get it every chance I get.

    What made you angry today?

Alex, maybe you can explain this. Someone posts a Sesame clip, like the original bunch including you, mstatz, etc. Someone else might post the same clip with better quality, no edits, okay. Tiny Dancer comes to mind. Then you get crappy copies like jxthompson who shoot with the phone. Shaky...

I don’t just like the McRib, I love.it. Messy, yes, but deliciously messy. BK tried to offer their version of ribs, but they were really barbecue-flavored bones.

Sometimes companies bring things back if there’s a big enough demand for it. Back in 1985, Coke replaced its formula it used for a hundred years with New Coke. I was terrible. Any cans or bottles of the old Coke were quickly snapped up. Coke realized the folly of their ways, and six months...

None Like it Hot: The "I Hate the Heat" Club

I don’t have man boobs, but I am getting a spare tire around my waist. I can’t even blame it on beer.

None Like it Hot: The "I Hate the Heat" Club

Everything in its season. I got a bunch of t-shirts, but I don’t like tank tops. I’m not into bare arms, unless I’m at the beach and completely shirtless. Larry the Cable Guy I ain’t.

    What made you angry today?

Well, at least that guy is on the manager’s radar now. I’ve served customers in enough jobs. If I’m having a bad day, or something happened to me years ago, I have no right to be an a$$hole to customers.

    When you need to rant...

Not necessarily. Water is heavier than Cheez-it’s. Plus if they ship through the post office, they don’t like shipping anything liquid. If a bottle accidentally springs a leak and damages things during delivery, that ain’t good. You’re better off picking it up and taking it home yourself.

    What made you angry today?

That helps. At any fast food joint, if there’s a problem, there’s always a manager on duty you can complain to. You might not have that option if he’s the manager/owner. It’s not a good way to run a business if he’s driving customers away. You might have some recourse leaving a negative review...

    The "You know what?" thread

I’ve spent a long time studying the history of the Hindenburg. To a lesser degree, so has Old Thunder. From the age of twelve, I became fascinated with this Zeppelin, the largest flying object ever built. It exploded and crashed on May 6, 1937. The disaster was captured on newsreel film, and...
