    Eyeball for Elmo

I usually use a couple of PVC pipe couplings to hold the eyes while painting. That way, they won't roll around. Once one side is dry, you can reposition them to paint any areas that weren't painted. Use thin, light passes with the spray paint to keep it from running. Also, I've had better luck...

    Melonpool: The Motion Picture

He finished shooting all of the puppet shots for our Kickstarter video this weekend. It's amazing how much prep work goes into a 6-minute short. Maybe out 78-minute feature's going to take a little longer than a couple of weekends to shoot. ;)

    Melonpool: The Motion Picture

So, we started shooting a short kickstarter video this weekend on the set. When we arrived, we were greeted by a cool little autograph on the side of the set. I thought you guys might enjoy... Pretty cool, huh?

How long of a snout is too long?

I have a crocodile puppet that I built a few months ago that has a 10-inch snout. I haven't noticed any problems with the lip synch on him, if that helps you to figure out the sizing.

    Legalities of puppet "Look alikes"?

I think the legalities lie in whether you say something like "An official Brad Pitt Puppet" vs. Brad "Bitt" or something like that. Also, if you have a spin on it all your own and they're a public figure, you should be in the clear. There's also a difference when you do a one-off of a celebrity...

    Melonpool: The Motion Picture

We're at the tail end of our preproduction. The script is done. The storyboards are pretty much done. We're about ready to shoot once the sets are finished. Not sure how long that will take -- probably months. We also have to cast a couple of parts, so that might delay us a bit. Oh yeah, and we...

    Melonpool: The Motion Picture

The movie or the set? I think the set will be done within the next month. The film is anyone's guess!

Earl Kress - In Memoriam of an MC Family Member

I will truly miss Earl. I've known him for about 15 years, though in the last two, I really go to "know" him a little better. A great man who always encouraged my crazy projects and even participated in a few. He was supposed to be one of the cast of a feature-length film we're planning to make...

    Boost Mobile Commercial

I should probably clarify. I didn't build the puppets. I was hired as a freelancer to design the characters on paper for others to build. The team that built them were the same guys that built the Nike MVPuppets a few years ago (I worked as the designer on those as well).

    Melonpool: The Motion Picture

I know I've posted here about the progress on my little film before here, but rather than resurrecting that old post, I thought I'd start one that actually had the project name int he title. Last weekend, we made some headway on the main set, and shot a short-short video to see how the...

With the talent on this board....WE SHOULD...

I think Happiness Hotel would be a better choice, since there are a LOT of parts. It's really the only song I can think of that's an ensemble piece -- maybe the Great Muppet Caper opening or closing credit sequence? (In a Movie)

    My first Muppet... Kermit!

Use flat white on the eyes, if possible. They'll look glossy in the photos, but they won't glare back off the flash. You should be able to attach the arms with a whip stitch. Just make sure they're exactly where you want them when you sew them -- they have a tendency for one to get higher as you...

    New puppets and rebuilds

Do Floyd's eyelids work? I've often thought about building him and a Scooter, but haven't gotten around to either.

Here it is -- I was wrong -- they're 15 second clips, but people can do several. Check it out here: http://www.starwarsuncut.com/

With the talent on this board....WE SHOULD...

There's a Star Wars project like this -- where the film was spilt up into 60 second chunks and strung together. It's very cool and I would totally want to participate. I vote for the Muppet Movie -- it's truly the most iconic of the series. I'll see if I can find the link to the Star Wars one --...
