Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
I really don't think MMW really moved forward all that much. "The Muppets" featured the characters regrouping to put on a show. MMW featured the Muppets moving on from the first film...only to just put their show on tour. The writers seem obsessed with the idea of simply re-creating "The Muppet...
I'm sorry, after two movies about the Muppets "playing themselves" and running around trying to continue their Muppet Show act, I'm REALLY ready for something different. Each of Henson's movies did something different with the characters. The two Disney films trap the Muppets in a world where...
I posted that review knowing full well that no one here would agree with it. I've come to expect that by now. Personally, I think this was a very fair review and I agree with a lot of what this reviewer says. The movie was good, but nothing fantastic, and I still prefer the 2011 film.
The Muppets need to take a break from movies for a while. Simple as that. If MMW only made a fraction of what the first one did, there's no way Disney is going to do a third one any time soon.
That's not what I meant and I'm sure you know that.
I clearly meant that we're not getting another one in the same time frame that we got the last one. That's just not going to happen. Could there be another one some day? Sure. But I doubt we'll see another one in the same vein as The Muppets...
It took 12 years to get another one. And a LOT changed in that time.
Odds seriously don't favor another Muppet film within the next 5-6 years, at least not from the people who made the last two.
How is making a little over $51 million domestically on a $50 million budget a "decent box office run". Muppet Central is the only place that seems to be attempting to spin the movies box office into something that isn't horrifically negative. The movie's budget doesn't even take into...
Guys...taking over two months to barely break even domestically on a $50,000,000 budget is not good. Yeah, the worldwide total is higher, but I'm willing to bet that the movies' marketing costs are well above the worldwide $77million total. It's all money that Disney needs to recupe. And...
And it took almost 2 months for that to happen. And I'm sure the $50 million budget doesn't include marketing. No matter what sort of positive spin you try to put on it, this is nothing to celebrate in any way, shape or form.
Then I guess I'm wrong-headed, because I preferred "The Muppets".
Again, honeymoon period.
I think what most people on this forum fail to take into consideration that they're hardcore Muppet fans with extremely deep attachments to these characters, while probably 95% of the casual viewing...
I wasn't moved by any of it, because the Gulag scenes were played very broadly and comedic, while the rest of the Muppets were portrayed as being too stupid to realize that Kermit had been replaced. In fact, nothing really moved me in this film. At all. I enjoyed it, but I certainly wasn't moved.
