It's because in the original story there were parts about them when they were kids, and parts about them as adults. So, for the remakes they just split those halves into two movies.

Apparently people are really liking it! It has a 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes (88% from audiences), and it's actually quite self aware. Plus, look at this beautiful 2D animation! I can't believe i'm saying this but, i'm actually excited to see it!

Yeah, I hate when fans do stuff like that. Fans have kissed Noah Schnapp at photo ops, groped Jenna Coleman (an actress from Doctor Who), it's super gross. A lot of fans don't think of the figures they idolize as actual people, just objects in their little fantasies.
