It’s occurred to me that maybe the Cathy family wanted to bring their beliefs to the forefront. It could be their election year effort to sway people to their way of thinking.

This also shed some light on the bigotry still very much alive in America. This issue has separated the true and wonderful Christians from the terrible people and groups that use the Christian label in an attempt to gentrify the country and the world so that it conforms to their very limited set of ideas.

Also, I don’t know exactly what happened, but it is my belief that CFA was going to use this unspecified and non-disclosed toy recall to give Henson an easy out before JHC decided to release their statement.

Well, that stuff WAS said on a radio show. Law of averages suggests it could have been a fairly right wing one. So basically, we should have known all along about his views (even though the fact he funds his views to become a reality IS the main problem at hand). I wouldn't doubt that he's giving buttloads of money to certain political campaigns and super PACs. But then, so aren't every major company in the US, even the "tolerant" ones you listed.

This is why I want Christians to go on record as separating themselves from the dangerous extremists that want to control our country, and turn a democracy into a mixture between a Theocracy, Autocracy, and (with the Neo-Cons involved) a Plutocracy. I don't think they should be painted with the same brush strokes as those people, but either there's a huge resistance to being resistant, or those who are languish in obscurity, almost silenced. I still find the action of the Catholic Church on a bunch of progressive nuns (who are content to focusing on HELPING people rather than pointing out how they're not living a narrow enough lifestyle to avoid Badplace) more than a little disturbing and disheartening. Like I've said this entire thread, why is one tiny footnote, presented as a suggestion if ANYTHING, that make or break for Christianity to the point where the Ten actual Commandments are put behind it? It's not a case of it being a sin, just a case of bigotry trying to justify itself religiously, and having that spread through.

But then I have to ask... when will the country be ready for gay marriage? It really seems the "Gay is evil" thing is a product of hateful indoctrination forced upon younger generations that would normally grow up not to care by those who hypocritically say that everything around them is indoctrinating their kids to be tolerant. Especially a certain cartoon sponge in one episode played for laughs, that now has turned into subversive comedy by the writers as a big Screw You to those very people. It seems the younger generation is no longer biting on that worm, and thinking for themselves (most of them coming to a "who cares?" conclusion), but it's going to take the prejudice dying out, or becoming increasingly UnPC for it to truely happen nationally.

Also, I don’t know exactly what happened, but it is my belief that CFA was going to use this unspecified and non-disclosed toy recall to give Henson an easy out before JHC decided to release their statement.
The more and more I think about it... let's face it. These things are CRAP! Cardboard punch put pieces to attach to a cheap, plastic film canisters (remember those?)... THAT is not a toy. That is a joke. That kind of thing ISN'T a prize.

This Ripping Friends cartoon basically says what I have to say about that...

Now, I'm fully convinced this would have been recalled anyway because EVERYTHING gets recalled for stupid reasons. This looks like something cheap that a kid with fat fingers can lodge one of those in anyway.

Maybe they feel like they're being cornered for something they didn't do? You catch more bees with honey...

When people are educated differently on how the Bible is meant to be read. That's a big part of it, though it's not all of it. Some people are just not comfortable with the idea in general and it has nothing to do with religion.

And again I have to mention the bees and honey thing.

I wonder when some people will learn that it's a choice to follow the Bible's teachings. It is not something to enforce on other people. It's the choice that makes it meaningful. That choice is the whole purpose and it can't be made for someone else.

I've been reading Henson's Facebook wall and so many people keep shouting cruel and inaccurate things. The Henson Company never condemned Christians, the Bible or Traditional Marriage. They didn't even condemn Chick-fil-A. They merely couldn't support the company's activism to remove the freedom of others to make their own choices. I don't see why so many people find that difficult to understand. :sigh:

I agree; to choose something because you've discovered it for yourself and decided it's for you can be a beautiful thing. Unfortunately organized religion tends to attract authoritarian personalities that insist on having power. They'd exist with or without religion; this is just one of their outlets.

I made a video on my YouTube channel about how Chick-fil-A is hurting the Muppets! It makes me very upset that Chick-fil-A is pretty much making Kermit the Frog cry!

And here again is a perfect example of Henson taking the High Road and being a class act. People are posting the most disgusting, hateful, slanderous stuff on their Facebook page, but Henson still allows them to be posted and aren't deleting them. Henson, in all fairness, has every right to remove a lot of the posts due to slander, cyberbullying, and being things that a family-friendly site shouldn't contain, but they leave them up precisely BECAUSE they're on the side of free speech and tolerance despite people trying to accuse them of the opposite.

I'd be VERY angry if I was accused of something I didn't do. I'd shout and scream and flip the heck out to prove it wasn't me. I don't see why more people who say "Don't lump me in with them" aren't trying to correct others themselves by distancing them. I LOVE Sonic the Hedgehog, but make it appoint to distance myself from a LOT of the craziness that fandom has (the worst of which, the fraction of the fan base obsessed with furry porn). I'd hate to have someone hateful who claims to speak for my religion, as that would imply that I'd agree with them.

That said, I know some liberal Christian Churches try very hard to distance themselves (to the point of doing a cute article about Spongebob I remember reading... something about taking a Pillow Pet and having it sit in pews as an "all are welcome" deal). It's just that no one notices.

Then of course there's the whole noise= news problem... so that's probably why those who distance themselves sound silent, when they aren't.

Well they're technically not supposed to judge others. Of course I won't be naive; I know that's not always why people don't speak out. Frankly I think it's more basic than that. A lot of moderate Christians have no idea what goes on in the more extreme circles. The denominations are all pretty separated that way. The Internet has improved this somewhat but I think when moderates encounter an extreme online they first assume there's something odd about that individual, not that they belong to a bigger group.
