Eh...

Glad it's back and all, but does it have to be on Adult Swim? That's probably the compromise, but it sounds like they're going to just take their existing adult anime and put wrap-arounds on them.

Still, the fact that they ended things so poorly and replaced them with garbage movies that shouldn't even be on the network was where they went wrong in the first place. Funimation's One Piece dub was just starting to air, and then was abruptly canceled, further killing it's chances for a fan base. I'm glad they were able to get by with streaming and DVD's, but a TV audience would have dramatically increased interest.

Though, I guess if they re-air Sailor Moon late at night, fangirls will scream their heads off in delight.

well this is good news but i would rather it replace adult swim altogether and give adult swim its own channel although maybe thats what they are doing

Adult Swim is their biggest hit. There's NO WAY they'd consider getting rid of that one. As for a full day Adult Swim network, there's a lot of logistical things someone once told me about it not working. Among other things, if they put r rated cartoons on in the middle of the day, some parental group will whine their butts off about it. I'm shocked they can even syndicate Family Guy in the late afternoons. They're not even that severely edited. Well, the first couple seasons were.

Plus, they'd need to make it out of an existing network. That's why we have Disney Junior... they took a Soap opera network that was owned by Disney and just changed the programming format. Somehow these big companies can't make entirely new channels out of thin air.

Either that, or they end up ruining perfectly good already-existing channels devoted to animation like what happened when Toon Disney got converted into the crud that is Disney XD.

I'm with Drtooth on this one. Toonami's going to be brought back?
Because they've got the jauggernaut that is the hour King of the Hill+hour American Dad+hour Family Guy block followed by twin airings of Robot Chicken Monday through Wednesdays, then what, they'll stick Toonami on at 12:30 AM EST when noone's awake to watch it? They barely get any fanbase for the Video Theater they've got on at 4 AM anyway.
And what shows will they bring in? The ones I used to watch in mid-200's were good stuff, but they left off on such an unfinished note like Onepiece and Ravemaster and Knights of the Zodiac/Saint Seia. The funny thing is that I caught an episode of that last one on the Cartoon Network channel that aired exclusively on the cruise ship I was on for a whole week around 2005/2006.

This comeback just doesn't really serve any good.

Saint Seiya was never finished. ADV/DIC didn't finish dubbing the series. So basically, they didn't finish dubbing a show that wasn't even finished in Japan. At least at the time of the DVD/dub releases, anyway. It's too complicated to mention everything about Saint Seiya. Let's just say they ended the series on a filler arc, and it took them until last decade to make direct to video episodes to end the actual comic storyline. And that's just in Japan.

But like I said, Funimation's One Piece dub was screwed by the end of Toonami. You can find some dubbed episodes on hulu, and they have most of the series, including new from Japan episodes subtitled (except the Davy Back Games story arc. GRRRR). Then there's the DVD releases. But there's no TV audience.

Toonami, while it's good to have back, needs a tween-teen audience that adult swim can't really deliver. And I agree. What shows are they going to air? Nicktoons and 4Kids have Dragon Ball Kai. Anything else sounds like it has potential for classic anime airings. I'd LOVE to see a dubbed, televised version of Toriko (maybe that could finally get us some merchandise). I'm sure they're just going to take existing anime adult swim airs and just group them together. Maybe ones for much older audiences... I could see Panty, Stocking, and Garterbelt... but that's going to be so incredibly edited, even for an adult audience.

The thing that's just frustrating about it (at least on Funimation's part) is that they just started showing the episodes before the line up got the boot. I don't even think they even got to Skypea yet by the time they stopped it. From what I heard, they did air a few of those episodes in other countries, but they had no place to put One Piece for the longest time.

Consider this also. Funimation was at the bidding rights for the show early on, and all indications were that they were going to get the licensing rights. They even registered the One Piece dot com web address, and at the last minute it went to 4Kids... something they deeply regretted. I guess it was the non-cable access that Toei liked, plus the fact they made Yu-Gi-Oh so big. But 4Kids has poor business sense. Kirby (the Nintendo character) WAS going to be the next big thing, billed as their next big franchise after Pokemon. All this merchandise was planned... and 4Kids chickened out. Nothing came out of anything. So basically when 4Kids had One Piece, Viz's Naruto got all the attention. Yadda Yadda... show disappeared quietly until it hit Toonami.

Still, I think you can see some dubbed episodes on hulu. Not sure up to what arc. But I'm sure they have all of Skypea, since they released that entire arc on DVD by now. Still, waiting impatiently for the Davy back fight. I have Japanese Grocer taped off television versions of that episode raw. I know what's happening... just can't understand most of it.

Anyone yet know what shows are going to be on this thing? I heard Casshern Sins will be one of them.

Basically a gritty reboot of an old Tatsunoko action show. I've never actually seen it, except for his appearance in the Time Bokan anniversary special DVD (only thing we got out of Time Bokan at any rate).
