I never saw Carrie, but that's a very intriguing point. It's like the flimsy excuse the Columbine kids used about bullies, when in reality they killed a bunch of nerdy kids who never would have picked on them.

@Dr Tooth: I remember exactly when the Tea Party started. It was 2006 and 2007, and it started from supporters of Ron Paul, 9/11 Truth activists, Alex Jones listeners, constitutionalists and 'end the fed' type Libertarians. They dressed up from period clothes from the Boston Tea Party and did some street action and later blossomed into more grassroots stuff. It was just when Obama won that we saw the cooption by GOP strategists. I mean if they are so anti washington, why do they always support right wing republicans?

They can't find jobs, that's the point. They graduated college (which their parents paid very, very large amounts for for four years) only to find the economy is in the dumps and there are no jobs. And Wall Street bears a share of the blame for this. That's why they're protesting.
Wall Street isn't the only one to blame. As someone with, IIRC, about 5 degrees ... college is about 2-4 years of about 1 year's worth of material, which was about what grade school was like for me. My Bachelor's in Psychology repeated so much crap, it was disgusting. It seemed like 2 years were spent learning about the founding fathers of psychology ... something you could dig up in about 3 minutes on wiki.
Our educational system isn't about making useful citizens. It's about wasting time so they get more money.
I did think it was tragic how Carrie imagines everyone's laughing at her, when in reality it was only a couple of people.
We don't know how she would've reacted, though, had she not been primed for such a thought by her paranoid psychotic mother. Her mother shoved down her throat the concept that the world was evil and hateful (all because she was raped or whatever). Had Carrie been raised by a loving supporting parent, this might not have happened at all and Carrie might have used her TK to pull their clothes off and humiliate them and laugh at them ... instead of killing everyone.

The myth that college diplomas are your ticket to easy street needs to be crushed. Seriously. Some of us face better prospects if we drop out of high school.

But here's the thing that I immediately get. There are NO start up jobs for kids who are just out of college. They have to be thrown into the pit of doom and fight hundreds to the death for a lousy burger flipping position. Even the small start up temp secretary/gopher jobs need years of experience. The Experience Catch 22 isn't just bullcrap, it stifles ANYONE who wants to work to get the experience needed to get real work. I've been blowing 10 years of my life trying to find the less than a year just to make money and get experience to get a crappy start up job so I can get more experience. I'm going to be fifty and on a five mile wait list for a toilet scrubber position I could have got if I dropped out of school, did drugs, got arrested for murder and robbery trying to get those drugs. That's FAIR?!? That's America?!? Why do I need a friggin' PhD in open heart surgery and aerodynamics just to freaking type an interoffice memo?!

And, let's say you managed to luck the heck out and actually get work. Now you have to do catchy video resumes with the production values of a Transformers movie to impress the idiot kid that got the job because he was someone's son?

And let's not forget my ol' pal Nepotism. Every freaking job I get turned down for in 10 years, I SWEAR went to someone's stupid stoner cousin who sits there all day doing nothing, bungling about. The TV Show "The Middle" was right. The only way you can get a job is to luck out on facebook and get some other stoner idiot who's friend/relative gave him HIS job.

Or, you can just come up with a ripoff of Myspace with less frills and drop out of college only to hire people who ONLY have college degrees who have rich parents that get Samuel L Jackson to narrate their video resumes that cost more than Green Lantern to freaking make!

Whole **** enchilada is rotten.

That's why I hate the movement. If you're anti-Washington, you DON'T subscribe to political parties. I wish someone would say, "Oh! You voted for Bush, didn't you? GET THE CRAP OUT! You're the reason we're here!" it's basically a Fox News made "Let's put another Neo-Con in" movement. Look what happened in 2010... we got a LOT of jerks in Congress now, especially their crybaby crap leader John Boehner... nothing's getting done, they're catering to 20% of the country, and the sane minded 80% are suffering because of it. If those freaking Anti- Wall Street Hippies were so dedicated to the cause, they would've bit their pride and voted for the party that WASN'T them and then we could have gotten rid of these stupid tax cuts that destroyed us. I don't even care about fixing the economy at this point. Make these gluttonous slobs at the top suffer.

Exactly, actually a lot of the kids and at least one of the teachers was in her corner but she let the bullies get to her and ended up destroying even the good parts of her life.

And it's tragic when you compare it to Columbine. This movie came out in 1976 but clearly we didn't learn from its message. I think we just assumed that kind of thing could never happen because it seemed so outrageous.

We don't know how she would've reacted, though, had she not been primed for such a thought by her paranoid psychotic mother.
I think you're right, her crazy mother is what pushes Carrie over the edge. When she's picturing all the students and teachers laughing at her, she hears her mother's voice echoing in her head, "They're all going to laugh at you!" She's been traumatized with these negative, defeating thoughts (to the extreme!) all her life.

It seemed like 2 years were spent learning about the founding fathers of psychology ... something you could dig up in about 3 minutes on wiki.
Well I wouldn't rely on a wiki for that, but I get what you're saying, lol.

I spent many months trying to get nursing internships while in college and jobs shortly after graduation (and passing the NCLEX, of course). I was shot down sooooo many times. Nearly all advertised positions needed at least 2 years of experience. From what I hear, internships usually go to people who were working at those hospitals anyway.
And yet I've worked with "newbies" right out of school, both in long-term care and in acute care. How? I'll be honest: straight A's were things I just couldn't pull off. I have a hard time believing, though, that the newbies who can't do even basic things got better grades than me. Heck, I've even seen "expert nurses" who won't gown up for contact isolation. I think I'm one of the very few who consistently uses gel sanitizer or washing my hands ... even in comparison to the top dogs in the facilities. How are these people doing better than me? If I ever have to job search again, at least I have over a year's experience now. It still just bugs me to see people who make my flaws look like an application for sainthood.

I'd drop about half of education and go back to apprenticeships. It's focused and efficient. I'd also create licenses for jobs that don't usually require them. It would prove at least a little competence.
Why do I need a friggin' PhD in open heart surgery and aerodynamics just to freaking type an interoffice memo?!
Heheh, I've been told every so often that I shouldn't cut patients' nails. I'm like, "How many degrees are necessary to avoid cutting into the quick?" When I took A&P2, we had to dissect a cat, and while I wasn't the fastest (I was close, though) for skinning the thing, I also didn't absolutely butcher it either. I'm pretty sure I have the physical know-how to cut a dang hangnail. About the only time I refuse to do it is if you'd need specialized tools I don't have access to.

I have to admit I don't understand people's need to belong to a political party. It doesn't seem to go along with America's spirit at all to me. You're belonging to a group; you're not being independent. And you're pretty much cutting off the positive aspects of the opposite group (whichever group that is). I know people say they don't vote by party lines, but in practice I think that's exactly what a lot of people do.

My friend posted a picture on her facebook, showing the Wallstreet protesters, then the bottom half showed starving Africans with a caption that said "No, you're still the 99 percent". Just a little perspective.

Yeah, but Africa's a different country and has different problems. I'm sure if we were all starving and dying of diseases due to some idiot dictator we wouldn't have to think about trying to fulfill dreams. This isn't an out-suffering contest. That said, some of these fat cat types kinda make investments that help out these dictators... a LOT of money went to Darfur... and NOT the charities, if you catch my drift. Let's not forget the oil companies that make deals with certain dictators that are trying to destory their own people and us. yes, we should be lucky we don't have to drink animal urine to stave off death for 3 minutes and the fact we're not chronically in danger of genocide.

Our problem is simple. CEO's are getting paid to screw up. If it's a screw up in the company's favor, the stock holders reward them even further, if they ruin the company, they get a big fat bonus for screwing up, the stock holders P&M about it, and put someone exactly the same in charge. I don't wanna get into a whole big thing about business, but basically what happened with Enron that we should have paid closer attention to is happening with EVERY company.

I don't see why more traditional conservatives don't like the message these guys are sending... why must WE use OUR tax dollars to bribe companies to create jobs only to have them not create them. We have to pay the tax burden, and pay more of what we're worth than they are. HOW is that conservative? Conservatives hate welfare and want to get rid of it... how come corporate welfare is different?

The thing that ISN'T Wall Street's problem is the fact that we tell kids "HEY! You can be whatever the heck in the world you want to be" instead of "whatever you like to do, that's a hobby you'll slowly lose interest in. You're going to be a cog at best! And you're gonna be thankful to be a cog. You're going to wake up every morning and thank God that you're lucky enough to be a lifeless, deeply miserable, personality and whimsy devoid cog." And I can't finish that thought, because it;s too dark for here.

YET... YET when I see people who are lucky enough to fall butt backwards into jobs, they're complete drooling idiots or lazy Homer Simpson types that don't know what the crap they're doing. Even the SAME PLACES I applied to. Wall Street can be blame for the lack of job creation, but not for the corrupted system of who can get hired and who can't. I've been screwed out of dozens of crap jobs. CRAP jobs. Starbucks stuff. I have a horror tale of McDonalds royally screwing me. Sometimes I wonder... maybe I'm too competent to work.

That said, I hear ONE more story of an overpaid children's soccer coach getting arrested on some indecent thing (child porn possession, sexual assault of children on the team) I'm going to put "sex offender" on my resume. Something's freaking not right. I need to create an alternate universe where I'm a successful self made billionaire and put that on my resume for a temp office job, but some slimey Pedo can waltz into a school and say, "I want access to kid's sports" and get the job.

The Wall Street Protesters ... they need their own reality show! Those are still money-makers, right?
