My friend posted a picture on her facebook, showing the Wallstreet protesters, then the bottom half showed starving Africans with a caption that said "No, you're still the 99 percent". Just a little perspective.
Yeah, but Africa's a different country and has different problems. I'm sure if we were all starving and dying of diseases due to some idiot dictator we wouldn't have to think about trying to fulfill dreams. This isn't an out-suffering contest. That said, some of these fat cat types
kinda make investments that help out these dictators... a LOT of money went to Darfur... and NOT the charities, if you catch my drift. Let's not forget the oil companies that make deals with certain dictators that are trying to destory their own people and us. yes, we should be lucky we don't have to drink animal urine to stave off death for 3 minutes and the fact we're not chronically in danger of genocide.
Our problem is simple. CEO's are getting paid to screw up. If it's a screw up in the company's favor, the stock holders reward them even further, if they ruin the company, they get a big fat bonus for screwing up, the stock holders P&M about it, and put someone exactly the same in charge. I don't wanna get into a whole big thing about business, but basically what happened with Enron that we should have paid closer attention to is happening with EVERY company.
I don't see why more traditional conservatives don't like the message these guys are sending... why must WE use OUR tax dollars to bribe companies to create jobs only to have them not create them. We have to pay the tax burden, and pay more of what we're worth than they are. HOW is that conservative? Conservatives hate welfare and want to get rid of it... how come corporate welfare is different?
I spent many months trying to get nursing internships while in college and jobs shortly after graduation (and passing the NCLEX, of course). I was shot down sooooo many times. Nearly all advertised positions needed at least 2 years of experience. From what I hear, internships usually go to people who were working at those hospitals anyway.
And yet I've worked with "newbies" right out of school, both in long-term care and in acute care. How? I'll be honest: straight A's were things I just couldn't pull off. I have a hard time believing, though, that the newbies who can't do even basic things got better grades than me. Heck, I've even seen "expert nurses" who won't gown up for contact isolation. I think I'm one of the very few who consistently uses gel sanitizer or washing my hands ... even in comparison to the top dogs in the facilities. How are these people doing better than me? If I ever have to job search again, at least I have over a year's experience now. It still just bugs me to see people who make my flaws look like an application for sainthood.
The thing that ISN'T Wall Street's problem is the fact that we tell kids "HEY! You can be whatever the heck in the world you want to be" instead of "whatever you like to do, that's a hobby you'll slowly lose interest in. You're going to be a cog
at best! And you're gonna be thankful to be a cog. You're going to wake up every morning and thank God that you're lucky enough to be a lifeless, deeply miserable, personality and whimsy devoid cog." And I can't finish that thought, because it;s too dark for here.
YET... YET when I see people who are lucky enough to fall butt backwards into jobs, they're complete drooling idiots or lazy Homer Simpson types that don't know what the crap they're doing. Even the SAME PLACES I applied to. Wall Street can be blame for the lack of job creation, but not for the corrupted system of who can get hired and who can't. I've been screwed out of dozens of crap jobs. CRAP jobs. Starbucks stuff. I have a horror tale of McDonalds royally screwing me. Sometimes I wonder... maybe I'm too competent to work.
That said, I hear ONE more story of an overpaid children's soccer coach getting arrested on some indecent thing (child porn possession, sexual assault of children on the team) I'm going to put "sex offender" on my resume. Something's freaking not right. I need to create an alternate universe where I'm a successful self made billionaire and put that on my resume for a temp office job, but some slimey Pedo can waltz into a school and say, "I want access to kid's sports" and get the job.
