i think a lot of this thread was moved over to the absurd Bert & Ernie petition page. My thoughts on the subject are that their relationship should remain ambigous and in time gay people could be represented in the human cast without making a big deal about it just as Sesame successfully portrayed an interracial couple without delving into policial correctness or bigotry. However, gay people and gay parents have been shown on Sesame in the form of many entertainers who have taken part in the program. I never think a big deal needs to be made about the inclusion, but I am quite offended by the exclusion.
Chaz Bono is already getting grief for taking part in the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars due to being transgendered. It is a program heavily watched by families, but I don't see why Chaz should spark a discussion about anything unless it stems from the parent. I don't believe the show is going to be used as a soap box and besides, Chaz looks much more manly than me. I doubt many youngsters would question that anyway.
I have featured images below of entertainers who have managed to be officially out and open in their own distinct way without making that big a deal of it. I hope that trend continues. (Psst, by the way, Kermit isn't one of those entertainers, of course. But I do admire his knack for making friends from all walks of life.) None of these entertainers' lives are a secret. We're just in a new climate that doesn't much care for witch hunts anymore. Well, except for some key politicians.
