Still no real Muppet merch at the Disney mall stores yet, hopefully that'll change soon. Disney has really not, and still doesnt have any Muppet merchandise really. Its cool they have a couple things, but...eh, I recall all the nifty stuff I found in the 2002-2004 period at the malls.

Why is it the ONLY things Disney I like, doesnt have much merch?

Theres NO Up toys or merch. No real Emperors New Groove or Fantasia 2000 stuff. Hardly any Roger Rabbit merch.

*never cared for Mickey or most the classic films*

Ah... Unfortunately I won't be there until the second week. That's a shame! Just one week apart. :smirk:
Be sure to tell us how the used paper cup exhibit is!

I swear to Frog I saw an Up Figurine set ONCE and ONLY once. And there was only 1 of them. If somehow they got some odd prototype or some test market merchandise, or the annoyingly hot mall lights caused me to hallucinate... but I SWEAR I saw a figurine set with the old man, the Boy Scout, Kevin, Dug, and the three villain dogs. But I NEVER saw it again. Other than that they had large plush, a Snowglobe, and a Christmas ornament.

ENG, they had no merchandise when the film came out... a year later they had a set of bean bag plush Yzma, Pacha, and both the Llama and human versions of Kuzco. I can send a photo of them to you if you want. They were cleared out pretty fast after (yeah... after I spent 10 bucks a piece on them). But then again, that was during the gluttony of Pooh and Dalmatian stuff.

And RR would have to be some sort of agreement between Spielberg and Iger. Hopefully, they can work things out. I was very disappointed that there wasn't any movie 20th anniversary stuff. I did see a snowglobe in 2006 or so, but I don't collect things that have to be put in a display case and never be touched. Mainly because I don't have one, and I'd probably fill it with cheap toys anyway.

You're not crazy Dr T. The UP figure set does exists. I last saw it in a Disney Outlet Store near me.

Here's an Amazon link to the set (sold out sadly)

http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Pixar-Movie-7-Piece-Figurine/dp/B002V8I1HI

I also know that the mini brick company Kubrick did a couple of UP figures.

Hot Toys did these little fellahs:
http://www.hottoys.com.hk/index.php?target=products&product_id=469

Otherwise it's just been a lot of plush Dug and Kevin toys. You can get a free* Baby Kevin plush right now through Disney Movie rewards if you've purchased the DVD.

I suppose it's hard to market a cranky old man toy. :boo::sleep::smile:

*you have to pay 5$ or 6$ shipping.

@Dr tooth: WHOAH!
I had to ebay this up, you werent kidding:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Disney-Pixar-UP...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item25581df36b

These are going for a lot...

1. Why the heck didnt you grab one up?
2. again, why didn't you grab one up?

and 3. Why is it Disney floods there stores, Target, Toys R Us, etc with endless Cars, Wall E, etc figures...but they only give a few stores a couple of these? These absolutely did not end up in any of the 4 Disney Mall stores within two hours of myself, as up until a week ago no employee had even heard of any Up figure sets.

Ugh, looks like I'll have to engage in bidding wars for top dollar...thanks again Disney:frown:

As far as Roger Rabbit, I got that amazing 2 disc set from a couple years ago, so Im content:smile:

Oh, I could have grabbed one... of course, I'd have to run out of the mall and try not to get caught by the police. In other words I didn't have any money. Had I known it was the only one I'd ever see, I would have asked them to hold a set or order another set for me to purchase.

A couple things...

One, I'm sure there's another "Monsters VS Aliens" situation where it's a limited set and greedy e-Bay scalpers grabbed every set they could to sell it on e-Bay for top dollar.

Two, I really want to say Pixar is trying to become elitists and saying their movies are too good to make merchandise of, and therefore they limited their option of Up stuff. Not even having a kid's meal toy was inexcusable.

Three, Toy Robots and toy cars sell better than toy old men.

and four, I want to add this... the picture link provided does NOT look like the actual set I've seen. Which says that the set I saw was most likely a mistaken test run or prototype figurine set. It had a cardboard box shaped like the house instead of the standard PVC figure casing. So, even if I had the money, II wonder if they were going to sell it for me.

Really.. I saw it once and only once and never saw it again. I was kinda hoping that they were going to release it after Christmas (during the next 2 quarters) and they just got an early set by mistake.

I noticed all the pvc sets at Disneystore are $12.50, not bad. I woulda paypal'd ya the dough:smile: But that is weird, that you noticed a different package. Were they the same sculpts? On ebay theres a number of Up figures, including expensive vinyl figures and German pvcs.

So I went to the local Disneystore tonight, and the manager said they only got one Up pvc set. Literally, one. They have countless Manny, Power Rangers, Princess and the Frog, Cars, and other sets...but they only got *one* in. Googling online, it seems each store only got one each, if they even got any at all.
The manager said Disney wont allow them to specifically order any items as well.

So yeah, a large portions of these seem to be bought up by ebay scalpers.

It was so maddening seeing all the Monsters Vs Aliens stuff not just exclusive to Toys R Us, but instantly bought up and hawked on ebay. Half of it they werent even able to sell at the prices they wanted.

So it makes no sense to me. The best films Dreamworks and Pixar release ever in my view, and they keep a lid on merchandise. Meanwhile, from Wall E and Cars to Shrek and Kung Fu Panda; to this day stores are still crammed with that stuff. They made so many Wall E figures and toys they cant even sell em all at discount prices.

Pixar and Disney are doing of course whats called artificial scarcity, similar to the chase variant figure angle but without the coolness. And reading the UP blog back in may, it appears Disney reps canceled the fast food toy, the action figure line, etc.
Up to me is the best Pixar film Ive ever seen, and its a shame they made no real merch, where usually Disney floods the market to the point of vomit for each film. (I finally got a Kevin plush, but it was a mail away)

I swear that these are some sort of odd test run... maybe they're more expensive to produce than the rest of them? I find that rather odd that they want to make up some artificial scarcity for toys of a movie that actually did well, and I see nothing but Terminator Salvation crap going 8 pegs deep, even deeply discounted at Marshall's. Honestly, if I needed a sign that Playmates sucked, it's when they dropped plans for any new TMNT merchandise to latch on to the biggest bomb of the year.

And who wants to bet that the one set is getting snatched up by an employee to scalp on e-Bay? Really... the package I saw was different. And I think that even if I went back the next day to find the set with enough money to buy it, it would have disappeared by then (happens all the time for me, even if the thing is less than 3 bucks and I just don't have enough that day). Personally, I just wanted a small plush of Dug to put on a desk or something. Maybe the other dogs not selling is screwing something up?

When in Disney in October some of the PVC sets were in different packaging. Tall square boxes as opposed to the oval shapped container like box they come in at Disney Store. They had the same exact figures, just different packaging (the toy store in downtown actually had both sets side by side).

I don't remember specifically seeing the up figures though since I was busy searching for the Disney/Pixar Heroes set :embarrassed:

It could be possible what you saw was a Disney Parks exclusive that snuck it's way past the guards. Or it could be the 7 piece ornament set. I can't find a picture of it boxed online however the box you described goes along with some of Disney's other packaging on storybook ornament sets and such.

Edit: Also I'd say that the theory of the Old Man figures not selling well with kids seems the most plausible. Most of the Up licence seems to have gone to high end collectible merch. Like this 7inch Carl:

http://www.toywiz.com/7inchcarlfredricksen.html

and the figures I linked earlier.
