Through-out my years in grade school, when it came to plural pronunciations of certain words, we had the likes of children for child, cacti for cactus, and people for person.

Words like "childs", "cactuses", etc were always considered incorrect, and unintelligable, but has anyone besides me noticed the increase in the use of the word "persons" in everyday vocabulary? Not just a simple conversation amongst a group of people, but also in text - books, magazines, newspapers, and even on TV ranging from sitcoms to news reports.

In addition to that, it seems these same "persons" like to talk about "moneys" as well.

I'm not sure if this is another example of what other countries would say how stupid the country of America is, or if they simply want to phase out words like "people".

I think that's existed for awhile. I think some would say that "persons" is often used for more formal occasions.

I would say we are any dumber than any other country.

Anyway, I heard the word "anyways" being used a whole lot my whole life. I could never even get used to saying such a word.

I just talked to my friend the English major, hehe, she says "anyways" is obviously slang, but that "persons" and "moneys" is perfectly acceptable in the English language.

Well, to me it all depends on how you choose to use
"anyways" If you're saying it to be passive, than I can understand that usage of it Like the way you would use the phrase, "Whatever"

But ok

But is anybody tired of here this phrase?

Here are the statistics.

"They say "like" once every 11th seconds. Out of the entire episode, 12 minutes were dialogue, and in those 12 minutes, they said the word "like" 82 times. That boils down to 7 "like" a minute, or 1 "like" every 11th second."

Oh man, I really wish I could break the habit of saying "like" and "you know", verbal ticks are so frustrating!

I have a bad habbit of saying "just saying" at the end of almost any statement I make. I need to stop doing that. I also use "like" alot, but not in the whole "valley girl" type way. one of my friends said that it must be people from the north that use it alot, cause alot of people she knew said it, including her. I dunno

Another thing I know I am guilty of that I picked up from a friend is the phrase "I know right?"

Friend says to me: Wow, you sure have done alot of painting in your house
Me: I know right?

It makes me sound so conceited I hate that!

I'm sick of the word Awesome... and I'm sick of people saying something is "full of [adjective]"... usually Awesome.

Examples

Sunkist is a can of Awesome
or
Trident is a mouthful of Happy.

And how come NO ONE ever calls anyone "Cuz" anymore? I'm starting to miss 1950's Jazz slang.
