I have noticed some similarities between Bruno the Trashman and Krang's body suit from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I wonder if anybody else noticed such similarities.

Both characters were mainly used to transport certain smaller characters, with Bruno carrying Oscar in his trash can, and Krang being stored in the stomach of his body. Both Oscar and Krang were around since the first episodes of their respective series, while Bruno and the body (I really wish the writers thought to give Krang's body a name) were both introduced later, Bruno several seasons later, Krang's body at the end of the first season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Both characters were also mostly silent. Bruno spoke on a few rare occassions, and I think Krang's body might have spoken in one episode. I recall seeing an episode of Ninja Turtles during the summer of 1993, where it looked like the body spoke a lot, but for some reason my TV couldn't get sound on CBS that day. I think the body also moved on it's own in that episode, without Krang inside (I think of this as the equivilent to The Trash Can song with Bruno, where Bruno both sings heavily and appears without Oscar).

Both characters were rarely seen without the characters that they transported, but while Oscar the Grouch has made zillions of appearances without Bruno after the characters introduction, Krang was rarely seen outside of his body after it's introduction. I know that there was at least one episode afterwards where Krang was heavily shown out of his body, instead being on some robotic vehicle-like thing (which came with the Krang action figure).

Hmmm, I feel like there was something else that I had to say on the subject, but right now I can't quite remember what.

That's a rather interesting observation.

Not only that, but both Bruno and Krang's body were rather large beings, Caroll Spinney even said in his book that Bruno's boots were a size 22, lol.

I don't recall the body speaking... I do know the body made moans, groans and grunts in it's first appearance (Shreddered and Splintered).... it really had more static animation as the show went on, frankly... and some episodes you could tell the animators didn't want to bother, and they gave him the second "body." Basically the glass bubble with robot legs.

But good observation on that part though... I totally see the comparison now... obscured eyes (Krang has glasses, Bruno has big eyebrows)... the general sour demeanor on their faces.... I totally get what you're saying...

I think it's no secret that Krang probably also inspired the later character of Hector ConCarne... only Krang was JUST a disembodied brain, Hector was a disembodied brain and stomach; but similarly, a former circus bear named Boskov served as Hector's new body, lol.

I was a little confused too; I thought you meat Krang from The Simpsons.

That's KANG... not Krang.

Though.... Kang and Kodos's bodies sort of resemble the Yip Yip Martians.

Pro'lly... but the Robot body with a once living brain has been a popular sci-fi standby....

That said, Krang and the android body actually come from the TMNT comic book alien race, the Utrom... a peace-loving (in wide contrast to Krang) intellectual (not too far off of Krang) race that accidentally crashed into Earth. They have much more mechanical looking bodies (not fat guy with glasses bodies). And they were building a matter transporter to find their way home... the chemicals produced in the making of that device is the very same stuff that mutated the turtles in the first place (with the exception of the 1980's cartoon- Mutagen was apparently part of Krang's technology he gave to Shredder in assistance in taking over the world and giving him a body and stuff, and the second movie- they were planning to hint at that, but it was written out, possibly for budgetary reasons).

When you're a TMNT fan, this stuff is important.

This might sound crazy, but for some reason, when I was younger, I thought that if Krang's android body could talk, it would sound like Bruno.
