To me it highlights how we are all human and no matter how different we are there are many things the same about us . Really the Olympics to me are truly the time when for a few short days silly creatures can be just a bit more like fraggles .
It's such a rare thing that I could not see not liking it or wanting something else to be on tv or focusing on the evils going on in the world while it is going on. There will always be evil in human nature, but it is rare thing that focuses on the good in being human that is also always there...The Olympics aren't about winning to me, they are about simply being human, no more or less, on the same level as everyone else in the world, for a tiny bit of time .

Being disabled, one of my oldest dreams since I was little has been to be a gymnast in the Olympics, to me, their grace and abilities and mastery of the human body has always made them like gods to me...I can only dream what it must be like to have all of your muscles work so well^.^...

I L:flirt:VE the Olympics. I think this is where you can truly see real athletes, as opposed to professional sports. The Olympic games are more of an art form to me. Plus, I love the idea of continuing an ancient tradition.

Olympians don't do this for the money. There's a lot more cash in the world to be made requiring a lot less work.
Actually, that's not entirely true. Granted most athletes participating in the games are passionate and play to win. However, some countries have actually started incentives for medals and began attracting athletes from other countries to compete for their own. Canada is actually offering $20,000 (their currency) for gold medals, and I believe were able to pull an athlete from another country to compete for them. I personally don't see a problem with this as I feel these contestants are entitled to some extra rewards.

I agree..After all, some of them will only being able to go to the games once in their whole lifes if something happens, and have worked their whole lifes for that one chance....not all of them are lucky enough to come back time after time :frown:

The Olympics are special because they are a chance for everyone to put aside their political differences and come together for a few weeks. Despite the competitive aspect of the games, they unite countries all over the world for a few weeks.

Plus, they give countries a chance to prove which is the most physically/mentally/athletically fit, thus proving their superior strength and power.
Perfectlly put that is the best way i have heard it said forever love it very much :wink:

I agree with what a friend of mine said to me however:
Any country that's currently involved in war, unless they are the country that's being attacked, should be declared ineligible for participation in the Olympics. Sending their soldiers off to invade and kill at the same time as sending their athletes to play games and sports is a disgraceful mockery indeed.:attitude:

Jeez... then only Scandinavia would be able to compete... And France. That would be some dull olypics when 5 countries compete......

I DO think they should have had the games held in a democracy.... you DON'T wanna award the bad behavior of some of these dictatorships... as bad as our government can get, it's a fart in a hurricane compaired to most of the rest of the world.
