I don't really know who did the Cotton commercials, though it could have been him. I do agree I didn't like his new rendition of "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon." Not because he was bad so much, but because I didn't think it needed to be done over. But as far as the Cotton commercials, I adore them!

McDonald's was amazing in advertising, sometimes the food barely needed to be mentioned. It was the feeling that you associated with McDonald's that mattered. That it was family friendy place, or a place to hang out with your friends after school. And little kids saw it as a treat every now and then and a chance to get a toy and participate in Ronald's little world, lol.

My only problem with McDonald's commercials is that they change their slogan too much and too often... off the top of my head, I can think of the following past slogans...

"Do you believe in magic?"
"It could happen."
"Always good food, always good value."
"Did somebody say McDonald's?"
"We love to see you smile."

And then the current "Ba-da ba-ba-ba, I'm lovin' it", which has kind of gotten old already.

I loved all of those! But it is amazing how often they changed jingles and angles of their advertising. They really knew how to work it. And don't forget the original '70s "You deserve a break today!" And let's not forget to recall the hip and happening Mac Tonight (may he rest in retro peace, hehe)!

That latest one is nice, but it feels like the previous slogans and jingles had more thought put into them.

I think Macdonald's actually paid a German advertising firm a sum of 6 million for their current slogan. And they just took the chorus from a Justin Temberlake song...:stick_out_tongue:

Because anything retro is 'cool' again . And I think, with all of today's troubles, people want something that is 'safe' and will always stay the same. Old commercials are one of these things.
But you know it is not just lately that these have been popular, I use to be a part of a site called yesterdayland that was full of all these sort of things back in 96'

List o' toys I never got but wanted:

I remember Creepy Crawlers, though I don't particularly remember that commercial.

Funny thing, they have this slogan in Japan as well. I've got quite a few VHS taped off Japanese television, and quite a few episodes of Doraemon were sponsered by them. They have different Happy Meal toys (for the most part. They had the exact same Cars and Chronicals of Narnia toys we had), so far I've seen ones for varuious trading cards (Pokemon, Megaman, etc.), Snoopy (they really love him over there), and various Disney products. Now one of them was really interresting, since they had a cross promotion with the just opened at the time Hong Kong Disney world, and it had visiting or immigrant Chinese kids saying what the character names are called in China.

That said..

Anyone ever see the movie "Grumpy old men?" And do you remember the part where Walter Mauthau has a remote and changes the TV lottery on Jack Lemmon's TV set? And then there's an odd Little Caesars commercial with Puppets singing "Wolly Bully", only it's about Pizza? I've been waiting for someone to put that up online somewhere. Cracked me up the first time I saw it.
