Actually, I know exactly what you mean and have often felt the same way. There's this odd sense of jadedness and slight cruelty that keeps popping up in the new projects, that wasn't there before. It's not the same.

I actually don't think he's become a pushover with the pig, I think he's a bit more mean now. I don't think it's anyone's fault, I just think it's hard to recreate a classic like the Muppets.

I don't want to get into a big debate, hehe, just expressing.
Yeah, I really don't want to upset anyone with my thoughts..just expressing how I personaly feel about it all.
He used to act bashfull to piggy, and the only time he'd get real mean is if he knew what she was up to to teach her a lesson.
The times they are a changin', guess I'm becoming one of those old people who hate change lol.
It's not all bad mind you I just don't care for Kermit making hip hop referances and what not...

Honestly, I don't hate change and it's frustrating when people think that, hehe. But there is a fine line between further developing a character and outright changing it.

Well you would have to expect Kermit to change a little, now that Jim is gone. If Steve tried to do everything the way Jim would have, it would be maddming. For a long time he didn't even want to do Kermit beause he thought it was Jim's and he didn't want to mess things up.
I really think Kermit was more himself then he had been in some time in AVMMX. That said there where still parts I though Kermit would not have done or said, but who am i to judge.

now the Kermit and Piggy Relationship is something that i find very near and dear to my heart. I think deep down when all the chips our down Kermit loves Piggy and needs her to some degree. At times Piggy can be over bearing but what woman isn't at times. (I'm going to receive hate mail now) When it comes right down to when Kermit can't face his problems on his own he always seems to fall back and letPiggy fight his battles for him. I think that part of there relationship has not changed at all.

*sigh* yes that person was me, I don't know why I can't see it that way..but mostly I think it's because any time some one was acting goofie around Kermit be it on the muppet show, any of the movies, or The Jim Henson Hour.
Kermit would be like "aww come on guys" or "fozziiee"
I also personally don't like what a push over he's become with the pig.
But when your the only person who feels this way, it's hard to talk about it. And it's hard to make people understand where you're coming from.
Perhaps I just don't know anything about the Frog...
It might be your age, a lot of us around 30'ish somethings are just old enough to remember TMS first time around and all the characters have changed slightly since then i have to admit. A lot of the younger guys here only came to the Muppets around the time of MTI so the more modern characters were the ones they were first exposed to, and then kinda went backwards. I don't think there has been much "major" change though, or anything for the worse. I think Kermit and Piggy are actually both funnier now talking about their "relationship", it used to be the same old cliches.

Lets just all be thankful EMTV didnt have him dump her and get with that Mercedes chick!

See that's the thing, I don't like it when the Jim-era material is called things like "the same old cliches." The new material should compliment the classic material, not force it out of the way.

I love the new Kermit videos, they are just fantastic!

Just wanted to comment about someone who said that they didn't like how the Muppets are doing hip-hop... during the TMS era, they did alot of old music but they had tons of hippie, revolutionary guest stars! I can guarantee you that they weren't exactly orthodox, and they communicated with the audience. I think that using modern music to connect with the audience is a great idea, as long as it doesn't seem greatly out of character for the muppets to do so. And what I've seen, I don't think it is out of character.

It's not the genre I disagree with, (although I think hip-hop has overstayed its welcome in popular culture) it's the way that it is done. It looks like Kermit is trying to be trendy. Even the way he says the term "hip-hop" is akin to the cringeworthy moment in Muppets From Space when he said, "Way to get down with your bad selves!" It makes the frog look like a dorky out-of-touch artifact that is trying too hard than the relevant and comfortable-in-his-own-skin amphibian we all know him to be.

Kermit's little hip-hop aside is the only sore thumb on the site (and not a very big deal). But when people point to issues with Steve's Kermit, mark this as the sort of thing they're likely talking about. I like the Whitmire Kermit, but sometimes his signature teacup appears to be spiked with more caffeine than usual.

there are 2 new videos under breaking news. Its for muppets winning a grammy. Check it out at http://disney.go.com/dxd/index.html?channel=102451. Enjoy.
OOhh nice! Heh, the second video(the 5 minute one) is so classic!
I always love it when the Muppets do unscripted interviews on the street...but this time, its with celebrities.
The pairing of Kermit and Pepe on the red carpet was genuis.

See folks, so Muppets.com updates videos not just on the front, but the side and back
