I can't believe it! Thanks to garbage like Dancing with The Stars, Pushing Daisies, Wife Swap, and Ugly Betty, ABC isn't playing It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! AT ALL this year! At least not on my ABC affiliate! That's NEVER happened! For the past nineteen years (that I remember), Great Pumpkin was ALWAYS broadcasted on TV during the month of October!

That's why I have all the CB cartoons on VHS/DVD now

HEY HEY HEY! Pushing Daisies should NOT be linked into those shows. Not only is it not a reality show, but it is the most original thing I've seen on television. Do they solve murders? yes... but they don't spend 40 out of 44 minutes chopping dead bodies up. And Christian Chennowith is amazing in that show

So, they ain't gonna even air it on Halloween like they did last year? Betcha it's because of those Saturday Night Football Games (ESPN on ABC? Why not KEEP ESPN on ESPN?)

At least ABC was keeping or trying to keep with a tradtition. Other than Christmas specials, and only the old ones, NO channel does the fun stuff anymore. I remember no apparent reason specials.

Oh well, most of them are on DVD in some form or another. Unfortunately, you have to pay for them... but you get them uncut.

Like I said, my ABC station says they're airing it as far as I know. In any case though, people don't anticipate annual TV specials as much as years past. Not just because of DVDs though. I watched a Charlie Brown Christmas every year, but it was from my Grandma's VHS, not the live Television.

And while it is exciting to anticipate annually TV airings, there are drawbacks. You have commercials (which aren't as sweet as they used to be!), not to mention not getting home from work in time. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy watching Frosty and Charlie Brown on TV. But having the DVDs are fine for me too (and they're not that expensive as single DVDs).

Considering I have all the Peanuts specials for those holidays in that box set, I can watch Great Pumpkin anytime I want. And without the edits and commercials.

How many edits of GPCB are there? I remember the 1980's edit cut out the sequences where Lucy and everyone go Trick or Treating, and we don't get to see Charlie get rocks 3 times... The ABC part keeps that in tact, but it omits the scene where Schroeder is playing WWI music, and Snoopy cries, and gets so upset he leaves the party. Which, I think makes his moan, and Linus's confusion with the Great Pumpkin for no reason.

Now, you know what Halloween special I miss? The Real Ghostbusters and the Halloween door. I have it on tape, but I can't find it. Apparently, the entire RGB series is going to be released via Time Life, and speculation says that Halloween Door is gonna be on there, but I'll wait for a review to see about that.

Schroeder and his WW1 music making Snoopy emotional has ALWAYS been intact whenever I've seen it, but yes, I have a video tape (taped off CBS when they used to air it) where they cut out most of the trick-or-treating, where they fade straight to Charlie Brown talking about Snoopy in his WW1 Flying Ace guise right after the first "I got a rock" line.

Now, for the Thanksgiving special, I DO know that the current ABC print omits two scenes, and they both involve Snoopy and Woodstock; one of which includes where they go digging through a large chest, looking for the right costumes to wear (and props to use) for their Thanksgiving dinner, and end up in their pilgrim outfits, before they ring Charlie Brown's doorbell. The second is right after Charlie Brown mentions his grandmother lives in a condo, Snoopy treats himself and Woodstock to an actual turkey dinner, and breaks the wishbone, leaving Woodstock with the biggest half. Now those two scenes I remember seeing on the CBS print in the early 90s when I was little, but they weren't on the ABC print, so once I got the holiday boxed set on DVD last year, and saw those scenes again, it all came back to me. I don't know why, but I remember I got really emotional watching Woodstock zipping off in mid air with his half of the wishbone.

^ For the longest time I didn't know about a few extra seconds of scenes in the Halloween and Christmas specials because the copy my dad made in the 80s edited them out. Until we got them on DVD I didn't even know about them. It felt surreal
