After we finished up disc 1, I skipped ahead to disc 4 so we could watch the Lynn Redgrave episode (aka the Robin Hood show, aka the Scooter-tries-his-hand-at-stage-managing show).
So far that one's my fave; loved Scooter's musical interludes (and the lines about the Merry Men "living fast and looth." And backstage...Scooter's definitely channeling the frog, from shouting at people to get stuff out on stage to having scenery fall on him.
I'll bet Richard had fun doing that one. And it's a hint of what's to come, both on-camera and off.
Just photos, but no mention of Richard? Way no fair, man.
Yes I completely agree, that's one of their best episodes! Did you notice Scooter at the end thanking his Uncle JP and also claiming to pay all the instruments? Also a quick exchange with Beau, lol.
I think it does show that all his earlier Uncle talk was just a way to infiltrate himself into the show so to speak, lol. IMO, I can see Scooter in the beginning of the series just very eager to be in show business at all costs, no matter what (that's definitely how he comes off in the first season). But that later on as he becomes more respented by the other characters, he's more inspired to work with the team and channel the Frog. Which he probably secretly wanted to do in the first place, but didn't have the encouragment.
To me, the third season is really where they started to find their footing and become "The Muppet Show" we know today. Is the Pearl Baily episode in that one? Janice really starts to become a character here.
Yeah overall I think Disney has not done enough and it's frustrating. I mean it's great that the episodes are on DVD at all, and I don't want to sound spoiled. But it is a travesty that so many of the old specials are not seeing the light of day, when they could be on these disks. Also a travesty of Richard not being mentioned obviously.
I don't know if it would even matter, but I'm seriously thinking of not buying it, at least not right away. Henson has been doing a much better job with Fraggle Rock.
But definitely thanks for the updates, MN! And definitely watch Muppets on Puppets, it's essential for Muppet fans!
