Oh, so Statler has a soft spot for kids after all...but if they were performing in the Muppet Show, he'd be rough on them all the same. And heaven forbid that they let the Muppets know about their secret lives as Junior Rangers leaders - Fozzie would have a lot more bravado.

So there is certainly Richard's influence in there - the difference is that Richard never covered up how much he cared about children. Many adult actors would groan or turn away, but Richard would immediately swoop down and make the kids feel at home on the set. Wonder how much Randi Hacker knew about the Muppet performers...

And Janice knows all about bringing along extra supplies when the rest of the band wouldn't...fer sure.

I had a Richard-related dream last night, you guys. It was kinda bizarre but there you go.

I dreamed that I was looking into a magic mirror, and in it, I saw a scene playing out in the great hall of some dark, decaying castle, very much like the Skeksis' castle in The Dark Crystal. In it, there's a group of Muppet performers acting out a scene...and among them is Richard. He was the only one of them I recognized, and he appeared to be the director. And I remember that he was wearing a pair of jeans and a dark blue, short-sleeved shirt with white stripes on it.

At one point, he says, "No, let's go back and do it this way," and then goes over to a chair, sits down and starts writing something in a notepad.

Some other stuff happened; there were a few references to the King's Quest games by Sierra-On-Line - in fact at one point, several performers briefly turned into characters from the games - but the rest is kind of hazy.

Cool, MN, especially the magic mirror part, where do you suppose that came from?

I picked up a copy of the magazine Wired today, and I noticed it had a piece on the The 9 Best Sidekicks Ever. And who do you think made the list? Our own lovable lab assistant, Beaker!

"Strengths: Super-regenerative powers enable him to survive all of Dr. Honeydew's experiments, from deflation to explosion.

Weaknesses: Meep-meep is the extent of his vocabulary."--Troy Brownfield

Thanks, Troy, that was much appreciated!

Although, is the meep thing really a weakness? Hehe

Wow1! I love Wired Magazine! It's so cool and it makes a lot of sense that Beaker would be in their magazine because of his love of science, heh!

Man, now I had a very strange dream last night!

I was getting on a bus and this particular bus had a DVD player and a really big screen in the front. I put my DVD in, which seemed to be Richard at his going away party thing. I was enjoying it for awhile but then,to my horror, I realized I had forgotten to put in my earphones and the entire bus had been hearing the show along with me! (Something I often worry about in real life when I use my portable DVD player on a bus! Lol)

Hugely embarrassed, I ran to the player to turn the DVD off, but all the people on the bus were like, "No, don't turn it off, we enjoyed it!" Lol ::shrugs::

Wow, you got to see a video of Richard's going away party? What was it like?

As for my dream: well, the magic mirror could have come from the King's Quest games. For those who've never played them, I'll explain. In the first game, you have to help the hero recover the kingdom's three lost treasures, one of which is the magic mirror. In the rest of the games, it hangs in the throne room at the castle, and it shows visions that help the hero/heroine with whatever quest he or she is going on.

Sounds like a cool game!

Hmm, well actually in the dream the video was surprisingly deep. At one point he talked about dealing with people's negative reaction to AIDS. I hadn't thought about it much before but it is true. I mean, I can understand people being afraid back in the '80s, but unfortunately fear can often lead to panic and cruel behavior.

Yeah, and a lot of negative feelings and misunderstandings kind of kept the health authorities from trying to tackle AIDS at first, from what I've read. Now, people are much more educated about AIDS, of course, but there is still a stigma attached to it in some circles, unfortunately. And I saw a really good bumper sticker in the parking lot a while back: "Fight AIDS, not people with AIDS."

Obviously we weren't there, but getting the diagnosis must have been pretty scary at first for Richard. But thankfully, he was blessed with a loving family and a huge group of caring friends to help him through it.

Now then, onto somewhat more upbeat matters: over the weekend I went to a quilt show near my school, with my mother and grandmother. They had lots of nice works on display (both the display kind and the kind you throw on a bed). And get a load of this: one of the vendors was a shop from Closter.
