Oh, yeah. He's only 19, the new kid on the block, but he's holding his own with the pros. And he gets to head off the rendition of "Hut Sut Ralston."

And let's face it, all of those jokes are real groaners, the kind you'd hear on Veterinarian's Hospital.

I noticed we didn't really mention Jerry in the skit, probably since he's kinda the straight man. It reminds me of something he said in the MC interivew. That in the early days of The Muppets, he mainly played the straight man to Jim and Frank's craziness. (And that's definitely true if you watch their early programs like Hey Cinderella! and The Frog Prince.) And then when Richard joined they were eventually able to form their own sort of partnership. So in a way Richard gave Jerry the outlet to be a little more crazy.

Yeah Erin, Thoses are groaners. But the audience on that show seems to like them.

That makes a lot of sense, Herald, and it explains why they worked together so much over the years!

Yeah I always liked it when the Muppets groaned at each other's jokes too. Especially on the later years of Vet's Hospital. The groans were practically required! You can hear Richard making sure they're heared during the script read-through in Of Muppets and Men, lol.

Btw, if you guys haven't already, check out the Jim Lewis question on the Henson People thread. He's answered the first batch of questions, including mine about Richard.

Yeah, Richard the cackler. He's got a laugh like a machine gun...a curly-haired, somewhere-between-a-tenor-and-a-baritone machine gun.

The cackles, giggles and groans were flying fast and furious in that one scene. "He was the pillage idiot!" (chorus of boos)
And I don't know what Jerry read off of his script, but it must have been funny, for it made Richard throw his head back in laughter, get up and walk around in a circle before sitting back down.

Yeah darn it, I heard that skit on MC Radio once, but got distracted and completely missed the joke! Probably something fish-related though. ::nods:: lol

Between a tenor and a baritone? Not an easy thing, good combination!
