Bob McGrath and Fred Rogers could have been my tv dads. They both had qualities my own dad severely lacked (patience, sobriety).
But to make them surrogate dads is a big stretch and a risky jump.
I wish my own dad could have been more like them, but for youngsters that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. I think it creates more questions than answers.

Sadly there are folks who make fantasy into reality. There was a story I heard of a kid who died in the sewers because he tried to find the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

He must have been small to fit through that grate. Or an open manhole.

My family severely lacked patience and boundaries. However, being around them showed me on what NOT to be and strive for better.

My guess would definitely be an open manhole or open pipe from a small pond or something. There is a small river flow near my old house that has a pipe where the water comes out. It’s easy to crawl in there. I don’t recommend it, but it is possible.

I lost a number of baseballs, tennis balls, and super balls that fell in the sewer. That opening is big enough to fit your arm in, but not your whole body. That cast iron grate is way too heavy for a little kid to lift up.

I almost lost a tennis ball (I think?) as a kid when it nearly rolled into the sewer. I was grateful that I was quick to save it.
