For me, when I meet a public icon I admire, I do mention movies or shows, whatever they may have been in that I loved to them and how much they meant to me, but otherwise I say it in a casual manner and just talk to them like regular people like everyone else.Puppeteers and Sesame cast members are regular people, like you and me. But some fans idolize them like rock stars. It might be a little unsettling to some to be worshipped to such a degree.
But I’ve never seen any performer on an ego trip. “Hey, I was Ernie’s right hand for 15 years. I’m da bomb”,
Entertainment life unfortunately. It’s sadly a career that’s pretty much a roll of the dice and you either make it or you don’t. It sucks when it especially happens to those who really work hard and try to get to where they want to go.But, if I'm not mistaken, Caroll has also said he's witnessed some people come and go within the Muppet/Henson organization simply because they never achieved any level of fame like they thought they would.
Same here. I asked each of the SS castmembers I met if they had been enjoying their stay in Knoxville, and they had. I mentioned to Roscoe Orman that in addition to him feeling as though he was the first TV dad I ever had, but that I also enjoyed the episode of SANFORD AND SON he guest-starred in as a bank robber, which he still had vivid memories of. Bob McGrath was also particularly conversive, and even asked me a little about myself. For me, when I meet a public icon I admire, I do mention movies or shows, whatever they may have been in that I loved to them and how much they meant to me, but otherwise I say it in a casual manner and just talk to them like regular people like everyone else.
At the end of the day performers are not their characters. And it’s something many fans need to remember.
Ha! They actually brought this movie up during their panel, lol! Alan suggested everybody go watch it on YouTube before quickly changing his mind and saying buy the DVD instead.Yeah, I’m definitely bringing up my appreciation for Willie Dynamite when I chat with Roscoe.
